Job SummaryThe Director of Nursing’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, developing and maintaining all educational and administrative aspects of the Associate Degree Nursing Program. This includes planning, and administration of the program in accordance with state, national, and College policies and procedures. Additionally, provide leadership and oversight of the CNA program. This person will provide strategic leadership and promote a culture of excellence to engage faculty, staff, and students in the continuous improvement of the educational experience.
This Director will develop, execute, and manage College success initiatives through measurable results and performance indicators. This position reports directly to the Department Chair of Healthcare and Sciences, and is exempt.
- Represents the governing entity and the program of nursing
- Fulfills their authorized role to direct the program in all its phases
- Approves the instructional staff in the nursing program
- Selects appropriate clinical sites
- Approves and implements policies for the admission, progression, probation, and dismissal of students
- Ensures the enforcement of student policies
- Assigns faculty to teach content in their areas of expertise and knowledge
- Verifies students’ completion of program requirements
- Completes and submits the Texas Board of Nursing Affidavit of Graduation
- Completes and submits the NEPIS and CANEP by the required dates; and notifies Board Staff immediately when there is a change in the name of the program director or in contact information.
- Participates in the budget process that ensures that the nursing program budget is comparable to that of other departments;
- Develops and maintains an environment conducive to the teaching/learning process;
- Serves as a liaison for the nursing program with the administration of the governing entity;
- Leads the faculty in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the curriculum;
- Maintains an ongoing relationship with the community and with clinical affiliating agencies;
- Advocates for adequate faculty to teach in the program; and
- Participates in the strategic plan for the governing entity that includes future planning for the nursing program.
- Create and submit initial applications for an Associate Degree Nursing Program to appropriate agencies including the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing, Inc. (ACEN), Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, Texas Board of Nursing, SACSCOC and any other local, state, or national accrediting agencies required to operate in Texas.
- Provide academic leadership to faculty, staff, and students, including recruitment, selection, and oversight of nursing faculty.
- Plan, administer, and continuously improve the nursing program, including curriculum development, assessment, evaluation, and program review/self-study.
- Coordinate assessment of student learning outcomes and ensure continuous curriculum improvement in collaboration with faculty.
- Coordinate NCLEX preparation for students.
- Develop class schedules in collaboration with nursing faculty and the Department Chair.
- Recruit, select, and oversee the nursing faculty.
- Solicit individuals to serve on the nursing advisory committee and facilitate the meetings.
- Develop and maintain contractual arrangements with clinical facilities.
- Ensure high quality program facilities and equipment that meet healthcare industry standards.
- Teaching – as defined by LIT for the program or supporting coursework - to include all instructional modalities and offering times.
- Evaluate and recommend textbooks and other learning or instructional aids.
- Provide CNA program and faculty leadership, curriculum oversight, learning resources, etc.
