The Instructor of Development English’s responsibilities include providing instruction for students enrolled in Development English courses at the Lamar Institute of Technology. This position reports directly to the Department Chair of General Education and is a part‑time, exempt position. Hours vary depending on the need and course schedule and may include day, evening, and/or weekend classes.

This is not a posting for regular adjunct instructors. Classes will be delivered at the Sam Houston State University Campus.

• Teach courses as scheduled and actively engage students in the learning process
• Maintain ethical and professional behavior
• Attend adjunct faculty meetings
• Assess courses on departmental and institutional levels
• Complete required training, such as Blackboard Online Instructor Certification and Title IX Training, FERPA, etc.
• Utilize LIT’s Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) and Sam Houston State University (SHSU) Faculty Online Development Training to continually hone and improve professional knowledge and teaching skills
• Maintain knowledge of and adherence to the policies and procedures contained in the TSUS and LIT Policies and Procedures Manual
• Other related duties as assigned

Minimum Education / Qualifications

Required:

• A master’s degree in English or a master’s degree with 18 graduate hours in English from a regionally accredited institution
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
• Knowledge of teaching methodologies/pedagogical strategies
• Possess good verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work well in a team environment
• Possess good time management skills

Preferred Education /

Qualifications:

• Experience teaching in higher education
• Doctorate degree in subject area
• Related field and/or industry certifications

Physical Requirements: This position requires the ability to remain in a stationary position for most of the time; occasionally move about inside an office to access documents, office equipment, etc.; constantly operate a computer or other office equipment, such as a printer or copy machine.
