Job Summary
The Department of Educational Leadership seeks highly qualified educational leaders to serve as Field Supervisors in the Principal and Superintendent Preparation Programs. Field supervisors provide instructional supervision, coaching, and evaluation of certification candidates enrolled in required practicum and internship courses. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the quality, rigor, and compliance of field based experiences aligned with the Texas Administrative Code, Texas Educator Standards, and university program expectations.
Field supervisors mentor aspiring principals and superintendents as they engage in authentic leadership experiences within K–12 school and district settings. Through structured observations, post conferences, and reflective coaching, field supervisors support candidate growth in leadership knowledge, skills, professional dispositions, and ethical practice. Field supervisors work collaboratively with university faculty, program leadership, and campus-based site supervisors to ensure candidates are prepared for school and district leadership roles.
Job Functions
- Develop and deliver undergraduate and graduate level courses in the assigned discipline, utilizing effective teaching strategies and technologies to promote student learning and engagement. Maintain regular office hours to provide academic support and advice to students.
- Conduct research and scholarly activities in the faculty member’s area of expertise, including publishing in peer-reviewed journals, presenting at professional conferences, and seeking external funding where applicable. Contribute to the advancement of knowledge within the discipline.
- Participate in departmental, college, and university committees, as well as professional organizations. Engage in activities that support the mission of the university, including community outreach, curriculum development, and program assessment.
- Earned master’s degree in educational leadership, administration, or a related field (doctorate preferred).
- Valid Texas principal or superintendent certification, or equivalent administrative certification from another state.
- A minimum of three (3) years of successful professional experience in campus or district level leadership roles relevant to principalship or superintendency.
- Demonstrated knowledge of effective school and district leadership practices, including instructional leadership, organizational management, and professional ethics.
- Familiarity with Texas leadership standards and educator preparation requirements, or demonstrated ability to acquire such knowledge through training.
- Prior experience serving as a mentor principal, superintendent, or site supervisor.
- Experience supervising or coaching adult learners in educational settings.
- Experience working with educator preparation programs, accreditation processes, or state certification requirements.
- Strong written and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to provide constructive, developmental feedback.

- The Field Supervisor position requires the ability to communicate effectively in lectures, meetings, and office hours, as well as visual acuity for reading printed and digital materials, grading, and using computer systems. The role involves manual dexterity for typing, writing, and handling teaching materials, along with mobility to move between classrooms, offices, and meeting spaces. Occasional lifting of items such as books, laptops, or teaching equipment (typically under 20 pounds) may be necessary.
- The position also requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods during lectures, research, and office work.
This position is primarily performed in a professional office and/or classroom setting within a university environment. Work involves frequent interaction with students, faculty, and staff, requiring effective communication and collaboration.
