SPED Aide - Inclusion

Special Education Aide

Assist the teacher in meeting the instructional needs of students with disabilities. Work under the general supervision of the principal and the immediate direction of a certified teacher.

Qualifications:

• Education/Certification:
  
  High School Diploma or GED Paraprofessional Certification
• Special Knowledge/
  
  Skills:
  
  Effective communication and interpersonal skills Ability and desire to work with all children
  
  Experience:
  
  Some experience with handicapped children is preferred

Major

Responsibilities and Duties:

• Work with and under the immediate direction of the teacher(s) to whom assigned.
• Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce motor and/or cognitive skills as assigned by the teacher.
• Assist in supervising students throughout the school day--inside the classroom, lunchroom, hall, playground, and transportation.
• Keep the teacher informed of any special needs or problems of individual students.
• Assist the teacher in preparing instructional materials.
• Assist in maintaining a neat and orderly classroom.
• Assist in inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
• Assist the teacher in keeping administrative records and preparing required reports.
• Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
• Cooperate with other staff members in the movement of students from one activity to another.
• Participate in staff development training programs and faculty meetings.
• Enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and state and local Board Policy.
• Ride a special school bus to assist handicapped students in getting on and off the bus and in maintaining order.
• Assist students who have personal hygiene problems.
• Other duties as assigned to meet the needs of special education students.
