Job SummaryThe Adjunct Instructor teaches courses for the Industrial & Engineering Technology (IAET) department, including dual credit high‑school students. Courses and programs include:
- Computer Drafting
- Engineering Technology
- Instrumentation Technology
- Mechatronics
- Occupational Safety and Health (OSH)
- Process Operating Technology
- Robotics and Automation Technology
- Utility Line Technology
Hours vary by course schedule and may include day, evening, weekend, or online sessions. Flexible scheduling and online work arrangements are available, depending on course type.
Responsibilities- Teach courses as scheduled and actively engage students in the learning process
- Maintain ethical and professional behavior
- Attend adjunct faculty meetings
- Assess courses on departmental and institutional levels
- Complete required training, such as Blackboard Online Instructor Certification and Title IX Training
- Utilize LIT’s Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) and Sam Houston State University (SHSU) Faculty Online Development Training to continually hone and improve professional knowledge and teaching skills
- Maintain knowledge of and adherence to the policies and procedures contained in the TSUS and LIT Policies and Procedures Manual
- Other related duties as assigned
- Appropriate degree in accordance with specific program instructor qualifications (e.g., Master’s for some programs, Associate’s for more technical programs)
- Work experience in the specifically targeted program or related field
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
- Knowledge of teaching methodologies and pedagogical strategies
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Good time‑management skills
- Master’s degree in related coursework
- Experience teaching in higher education
- Related field and/or industry certifications
This position requires the ability to remain in a stationary position for most of the time, occasionally move about inside an office to access documents and office equipment, and constantly operate a computer or other office equipment such as a printer or copy machine.
