The Admissions Counselor reports directly to the Assistant Director of Admissions and Recruitment and is responsible for recruiting and advising prospective graduate and international students for Lamar University. This position promotes academic programs, provides admissions guidance, and supports students through admissions and the enrollment process to help achieve institutional enrollment goals. The Admissions Counselor represents the university at recruitment events, develops communications with prospective students, and collaborates with academic departments to facilitate enrollment.
- Provide accurate and timely admissions advisement to prospective domestic graduates and international students.
- Participate in online and in-person recruitment events, fairs, school visits, student appointments, and other related activities to generate leads and convert them.
- Develop and execute communication strategies, including automated and individualized communications for graduate and international students.
- Coordinate contact between students and LU academic colleges regarding graduate departmental admissions requirements while providing Welcome Center support assistance to walk-in students as needed.
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Knowledge of international educational systems, credentials, and admissions processes.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Bilingual (English and Spanish)
- Experience recruiting prospective students across multiple academic platforms.
- Domestic and International graduate student populations.
- Sales experience and familiarity with customer relationship management (CRM) systems, relationship selling, and other sales techniques.
- Presentation and public speaking.
- Ability to work and communicate effectively and professionally with students, families, faculty, staff, and community partners.
- Demonstrated time management, ability to multitask, and meet deadlines.
- Tact and judgement in obtaining or giving information of a confidential nature.
- Creative problem-solving and decision-making.
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time and lift objects that weigh 25 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Extensive travel within recruitment territories.
- Occasional hours outside of business hours, such as evenings and weekends.
