Instructional Aide ES

Primary

Purpose:

Assist teachers and campus administration in providing instructional, behavioral, clerical, and student support. Work under the direct supervision of a certified teacher or campus administrator.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

High school diploma or GED. Associate's degree or two years of study at an institution of higher learning preferred. Must meet federal and state requirements for paraprofessional certification, as applicable. Special Knowledge/

Skills:

Ability to work well with children. Ability to assist with instructional activities and student learning. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Effective organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to work as a member of a team.

Experience:

Two years of experience working with children preferred. Experience working in an educational setting preferred.

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Instructional Support:

  • Provide individual instruction and assistance to individual students or small groups under the direction of the teacher.
  • Assist students with instructional activities, assignments, classroom materials, technology, and equipment.
  • Reinforce concepts and skills introduced by the teacher.
  • Assist teachers in preparing instructional materials, classroom activities, bulletin boards, and displays.
  • Help maintain an organized and supportive learning environment.
  • Read to students, listen to students read aloud, and assist with academic activities as directed.
  • Student Support:

  • Assist students with academic, behavioral, social, communication, mobility, personal care, or daily living needs as assigned.
  • Support the implementation of students' instructional plans, behavior plans, accommodations, modifications, and individualized education programs, as applicable.
  • Observe student performance and behavior and provide information to the supervising teacher.
  • Assist with transitions, arrival, dismissal, lunch, recess, specials, and other campus activities as assigned.
  • Clerical Support:

  • Compile, maintain, and file reports, records, instructional materials, and other documents as required.
  • Assist with copying, organizing, distributing, and collecting classroom materials and student work.
  • Student Management:

  • Supervise and monitor students as assigned and assist teachers and administrators in maintaining appropriate student behavior and an orderly atmosphere.
  • Help manage student behavior in accordance with the student code of conduct, classroom procedures, and campus expectations.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and records.
  • Other:

  • Assist with campus programs, activities, and duties as assigned.
  • Participate in staff development, training, and meetings as required.
  • Follow district safety procedures and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate staff member.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the teacher, principal, or campus administrator.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities:

    None.

    Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
    Tools/Equipment Used:
    Standard office equipment, including computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment; adaptive or specialized equipment as assigned. Posture:
    Regular sitting, standing, kneeling, squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting. Motion:
    Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; regular reaching. Lifting:
    Frequent light lifting and carrying under 15 pounds; occasional moderate lifting and carrying of 15–44 pounds; may be required to lift, position, or assist students according to assignment. Environment:
    Work inside and outside; exposure to noise; may be exposed to biological hazards, bodily fluids, or other conditions associated with working with children. Mental Demands:
    Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress; respond appropriately to student needs and behavior.
