Student Support Specialist, Title III

The Student Support Specialist, Title III supports the Title III Strengthening Institutions Program (SIP):
Embracing Individual Paths and Unique Backgrounds by assisting STEM majors with persistence, re-enrollment, and academic progress. This position emphasizes responsive student support, academic navigation assistance, program participation, and accurate documentation to support student success initiatives. Special

Essential Job Functions

Student Support and Case Management:

  • Conduct outreach to STEM students to support retention and academic progress.
  • Assist students with success planning, follow-ups, and ongoing case tracking.
  • Guide students who stopped enrollment through re-enrollment processes and academic transitions.
  • Provide assistance with academic and institutional procedures as needed.

Academic and Administrative Navigation:

  • Assist students with course planning questions and credit transfer inquiries.
  • Provide guidance on financial aid processes and institutional resources.
  • Facilitate connections with campus offices that support student academic needs.

Participation in Student Success

Activities:

  • Support workshops, study skills sessions, mentoring activities, and other student success events.
  • Participate in training related to student engagement practices and institutional support strategies.

Documentation, Reporting, and Administrative Support:

  • Maintain accurate records of outreach, student contacts, and case documentation.
  • Work with the Data Analytics Specialist to assist with tracking and reporting requirements.
  • Provide support to the Director in completing program-related administrative tasks.
Minimum and Desired Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, social work, human services, or a related field.
  • Experience working with a range of student populations.
  • Effective communication and organizational skills.
  • Effective follow-up and time management skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multiple departments.

Desired

Qualifications:

  • Experience in higher education student services, advising, retention, or case management.
  • Experience supporting STEM student success initiatives.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

  • Occasional standing, walking, and moving between campus offices or buildings.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and via electronic communication.
  • Ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 15 pounds (e.g., files, workshop materials, event supplies).
