PRIMARY PURPOSE
Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
o Associate's degree or two years of study (60 college hours) at an institute of higher learning
Special Knowledge/
Skills:
Knowledge of subject assigned.
Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior Ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics Ability to work well with children Ability to remain flexible and adapt to changing demands
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
- Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
- Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curriculum as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
- Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
- Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
- Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
- Be a positive role model for students; support mission of school district.
- Creating and maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social and emotional development of students and is congruent with the teaching philosophy, Board of Education policy and goals of the district.
- Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
- Encourage students to meet acceptable standards of classroom behavior as defined in the Student Code of Conduct
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principal, and teachers.
- Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
- Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
- Provide direct instruction to students, in Spanish and/or English.
- Conduct instructional exercises and implement specialized interventions and strategies for Newcomers/ELL students assigned by the teacher; work with individual students or small groups.
- Conduct parent involvement activities.
- Prepare instructional materials and classroom displays as needed.
- Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
- Help maintain neat and orderly classroom.
- Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of ELL equipment and instructional resources.
- Keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
- Keep informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
- Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
- Participate in departmental meetings and special events as assigned.
- Adapt to changing demands when assisting teachers who provide instruction for distance learning.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Equipment Used:
Computer with appropriate software, printer, calculator, copier, facsimile machine, overhead projector, and other specialized equipment that is particularly unique to the teaching assignment.
