Position:
Transport Engineer Tech I/II – Bridge (2601378)
Beaumont District is looking for a motivated Engineering Technician to join our Bridge Section in Beaumont. The role involves working on a variety of projects across a twelve‑county area, learning and growing while contributing to the future of Texas transportation.
Transportation Engineer Tech I (A16): $40,918 – $61,130
Transportation Engineer Tech II (A18): $45,521 – $71,055
- Perform basic design work and calculations.
- Conduct field work and use automated systems.
- Design activity is overseen by a licensed professional engineer or registered architect.
- Prepare field notes, quantity summaries, hydraulic and utility studies, and right‑of‑way maps.
- Review plans for format, drafting and calculation errors, and correlation with specifications.
- Prepare roadway design, traffic control, lighting, signal, and building plans.
- Perform other job responsibilities as assigned.
- Education
:
High School Graduate or equivalent in general high school studies. - Experience
:- Transportation Engineer Tech I:
No experience required. - Transportation Engineer Tech II: 2 years of experience in drafting, design, and plan preparation (full‑time or prorated part‑time equivalent). Related college education or technical training may be substituted on a year‑per‑year basis.
- Transportation Engineer Tech I:
- Licenses and Certifications
:
Valid driver’s license (position requires driving a state vehicle).
- Subject to outside environmental conditions; no weather protection.
- Exposure to noise and hazards such as moving vehicles, mechanical parts, high places, heat, or chemicals.
- Must wear protective gear (respirator, hard hat, or other devices).
- Fingering, typing, and repetitive motion required.
- Visual acuity for operating motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment.
- Pre‑employment physical exam required.
- Must pass a drug test; position subject to random drug testing.
Note:
compliance with 49 CFR Part 40 regarding medical marijuana is not recognized as a valid exemption.
