Overview
Transportation Engineer II, III, IV, or V for the Beaumont Area Office (2601721). The Beaumont Area Office for TxDOT’s Beaumont District seeks a Transportation Engineer based in Beaumont, TX to support planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and/or maintenance.
Responsibilities- Performs complex transportation engineering work in planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and/or maintenance, ensuring compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines.
- Works independently on assignments; refers unusual issues to the supervisor.
- Assists Area Engineers with construction contract administration matters; coordinates with Area Engineers and reviews area office contract submissions.
- Negotiates fees, explains scope of work, monitors consultant design contracts, and oversees construction and audit records.
- Oversees construction project traffic control plans; periodically reviews traffic control devices with Area Engineers.
- Monitors construction schedules, contractor payments and job progress; analyzes and resolves contract problems and disputes.
- Analyzes and recommends modifications to highway maintenance contracts; conducts pre-construction meetings and public hearings.
- Drives/travels to project/work locations to perform on-site engineering reviews, analyses, tests and provide technical support.
- Uses project management principles to initiate, plan, execute, monitor, control and close transportation projects; coordinates to develop, monitor and update integrated project plans and schedules.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science; bachelor’s or higher degree accepted by TX PELS.
ExperienceTransportation Engineer II: 5 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (full-time or prorated part-time equivalent).
Transportation Engineer III: 6 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (full-time or prorated part-time equivalent).
Transportation Engineer IV: 7 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (full-time or prorated part-time equivalent).
Transportation Engineer V: 8 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (full-time or prorated part-time equivalent).
Valid driver’s license required. This position requires driving a state vehicle. Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) is required. For Bridge Inspection: must have completed a comprehensive training course based on the Bridge Inspector's Training Manual or NICET Level III or IV certification in Bridge Safety Inspection within one year of hire.
* Professional engineers licensed in another state must meet Texas license requirements within six months of hire and sign an agreement as a condition of employment.

Competencies also include applicable testing methods, processes and procedures; public relations for maintaining effective working relationships; performing calculations for material and labor estimates, expenses and engineering data; monitoring project status and progress.
