Transportation Engineer II, III, IV or V - District Construction

Overview

Transportation Engineer II, III, IV or V - District Construction (2601616). Position based in Beaumont, TX with responsibilities in planning, project development and design, construction, and transportation/traffic operations and/or maintenance within the TxDOT Beaumont District.

• Performs complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas and ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines.
• Assists Area Engineers with construction contract administration matters and coordinates with area engineers on contract submissions.
• Negotiates fees, explains scope of work and monitors consultant design contracts; oversees construction and audit records.
• Oversees construction project traffic control plans and reviews traffic control devices with Area Engineers.
• Oversees contracts, issues work orders and monitors construction schedules, contractor payments and job progress on construction projects.
• Analyzes and assists in a resolution of contract problems and disputes; analyzes and recommends approval for modifications to highway maintenance contracts.
• Conducts pre-construction meetings and public hearings; drives/travels to project locations for on-site reviews, tests and technical support.
• Utilizes project management principles to initiate, plan, execute, monitor, control and close transportation projects; coordinates with others to develop and update integrated project plans and schedules.

Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science; degree accepted by TX PELS.

Transportation Engineer II: 5 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (full-time or prorated part-time).

Transportation Engineer III: 6 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (full-time or prorated part-time).

Transportation Engineer IV: 7 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (full-time or prorated part-time).

Transportation Engineer V: 8 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (full-time or prorated part-time).

Valid driver’s license; this position requires driving a state vehicle. Licensed Professional Engineer is preferred.

For Bridge Inspection: must have completed a comprehensive training course based on the Bridge Inspector's Training Manual or NICET Level III or IV certification in Bridge Safety Inspection within one year of hire. If licensed in another state, must obtain Texas PE within six months of hire and sign an employment agreement.

• Standards and specifications for bridges and transportation structures; construction engineering policies and procedures; construction phasing and sequencing; construction, operation and maintenance of traffic control devices.
• Cost estimating and cost controls; geometric design relationships to traffic operations, maintenance and construction.
• Government funding programs; negotiating settlement of differences; effective communication for presenting images and ideas.
• Applicable testing methods, processes and procedures; applicable engineering workstations and applications for planning and design tasks.

• Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions; noise and vibration; long periods of standing and walking; ability to lift up to 20 lbs; balance and crouch on varied surfaces.

This job has been identified as physically demanding and will require a pre-employment physical.
