A leading global manufacturing organization is seeking an experienced Instrument Engineer to serve as the primary Instrumentation & Controls Subject Matter Expert (SME) supporting a large-scale chemical manufacturing facility in Beaumont, Texas. This highly visible role will lead instrumentation initiatives, support capital projects, enhance plant reliability, and provide technical leadership across operations, engineering, and controls teams.

About the Role

The successful candidate will play a critical role in evaluating, specifying, commissioning, and troubleshooting instrumentation systems while driving continuous improvement and modernization efforts throughout the site.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as the site's technical authority for Instrumentation & Control Systems.
  • Lead instrumentation-related activities across multiple capital and sustaining projects.
  • Manage instrumentation scopes from concept through commissioning and startup.
  • Support Operations and Maintenance teams with troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
  • Review and approve instrument loop drawings, specifications, work instructions, and procedures.
  • Develop engineered solutions to improve process reliability, efficiency, and safety.
  • Coordinate with DCS, Controls, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, and Process Engineering teams.
  • Support HAZOPs, PSSRs, risk assessments, and other process safety initiatives.
  • Evaluate and implement emerging instrumentation technologies and best practices.
  • Standardize instrumentation strategies and equipment across the facility.
  • Provide guidance on instrumentation lifecycle management, preventive maintenance strategies, and safety-critical instrumentation.
Qualifications Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering. Any engineering discipline will be considered with relevant Instrumentation & Controls experience.
Experience
  • Minimum 5 years of industrial engineering experience.
  • Strong background in Instrumentation & Controls within a manufacturing or process environment.
  • Experience supporting plant operations, reliability, or capital projects.
  • Ability to act independently as the lead Instrumentation SME.
Required Skills Instrumentation
  • Experience with:
    Flow Meters, Level Transmitters, Pressure, Temperature, and Process Instrumentation.
  • Instrument Selection & Specification.
  • Loop Drawings.
  • Instrument Troubleshooting and Reliability Improvement.
Controls & Automation
  • Experience working with Distributed Control Systems (DCS).
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with Controls and Automation teams.
  • Understanding of process control fundamentals and industrial automation systems.
  • DCS Systems:
    DeltaV experience strongly preferred.
  • Programming experience is not required.
  • Comfortable supporting DCS-related projects, modifications, startups, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Capital project support and execution.
  • Development of project scopes, estimates, and execution plans.
  • Contractor and vendor coordination.
  • Multi-disciplinary project collaboration.
Preferred Qualifications /Skills
  • Exposure to Emerson DeltaV systems.
  • Knowledge of current and emerging instrumentation technologies.
  • Experience supporting large industrial or chemical processing facilities.
  • PE, PMP, or other relevant technical certifications are considered a plus.
