Description
Summary:
Under general supervision, performs support for the Jefferson County Correctional Facility. Also performs clerical duties and support for the assigned county department.
Essential Job Functions:
- Answer routine inquiries, take messages and/or refer to appropriate personnel.
- Prepare various monthly and weekly reports.
- Enter phone and debit card ACH transactions daily; run weekly reports for deposits; record inmate debt and verify; run reports for badge fee funds, commissary funds, medical funds, and miscellaneous debt funds weekly.
- Write checks from inmate escrow and commissary accounts; make deposits into inmate escrow and commissary accounts; enter trustee pay and medical charges; process invoices for payment; issue checks weekly and perform monthly audits.
- Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position.

Equipment Used: Personal computer, adding machine/calculator, and other general office equipment as needed.
Education & ExperienceEducation & Experience: High school diploma or GED. A minimum of an Associate’s Degree in Accounting or 5 years of experience required. Accounts Payable/Receivable experience is a must. General knowledge of banking and accounting processes required.
Knowledge, Skills, & AbilitiesKnowledge, Skills & Abilities: Strong verbal and written communication skills; computer skills including word processing; excellent interpersonal skills to interact and cooperate with co-workers and deal effectively with law enforcement agencies and the general public. Must be able to type 30 wpm.
Work Situations/Demands/EffortWork Situations/Demands/Effort: Work requires organizing, prioritizing, accuracy with attention to detail; flexibility to accommodate a variety of assignments; meeting deadlines; patience when dealing with the public; working as part of a group; performing routine, repetitive duties; and working in a high-volume environment. During emergency events, additional working hours may be required outside of a normal work week.
Working ConditionsWorking Conditions: Work is performed primarily in a secured correctional facility. Work can be sedentary, may require working alone in some instances, and includes repetitive duties.
