Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor:
Salary Range $36,976-$40,405/ Annually
JOB PURPOSE: Substance Use Disorder Counselors (LCDC) provide assessment, counseling and referral services to Spindletop clients who are identified as possibly experiencing difficulties secondary to substance use. Substance use may represent the individual'sprimary challenge or may be present with co-occurring physical or mental health disorders. Substance Use Counselors utilize a motivational interviewing paradigm to assess the individual's readiness to change and tailor interventions to match the readiness to change stage.
Substance Use Disorder Counselors coordinate their services with other Spindletop staff and collaborating providers.
DEGREE/CERTIFICATION/EXPERIENCE
REQUIRED:
High School degree (required). Bachelor's degree (especially in human services field) preferred. Active License as a Chemical Dependency Counselor(LCDC) or LCDC intern in the state of Texas required. Prior experience providing chemical dependency services within a community setting preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Abilityto professionally interact with and assess substance using individuals, somewith co-occurring physical and mental health disorders.
- Proficiency in motivational interviewing, including assessing stage of change and matching interventions to the individual's stage of change.
- Abilityto provide a range of services including assessment, motivational interviewing,and individual, group and family counseling.
- Abilityto professionally interact with other service providers.
- Abilityto write progress notes using acceptable spelling and grammar.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and able to utilize electronic medical record.
- Current State of Texas Driver License or if you live in another state, must be currently licensed in that state.
- Liability insurance required if employee will operate personal vehicle on Center propertyor for Center business. Must be insurable by Center's liability carrier if employee operates a Center vehicleor drives personal car on Center business.
- Must complete all training requirements in month in which they are due.
- Must submit to and pass a pre-employment drug test
- Must successfully pass all background screens as required by the state
- Conduct and document assessments of individual's substance use, provide feedback and appropriate referrals.
- Utilize motivational interviewing strategies to assess readiness to change and match interventions to the stage.
- Provide referrals consistent with the individual's needs and readiness to change.
- Conduct individual, group and family counseling to address substance use issues.
- Coordinate services with other providers per the Person Centered Plan of Recovery.
- Participate as a team member in the Person Centered Recovery team.
- Document all services in a timely manner, consistent with agency standards.
