The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist is responsible for helping to ensure all clinical functions of the Pharmacy Department are carried out and assist with the education of staff to enhance pharmaceutical services. This Clinical position requires skills and experience in providing educational opportunities to patients as well as peers. The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist must support the mission of providing Sacred Work to all who enter the doors of Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas.

- Manages and/or recommends evident-based medication therapy, including initiation, administration, modification and discontinuation of therapy according to the patient's responses, change in condition or concomitant therapy in order to optimize outcomes. Documents all clinical interventions into the interventions tracking system.
- Coordinates the timing and collection of drug concentration samples, interprets results, adjusts medication dosages or makes recommendations regarding adjustment and monitors responses to treatment. Performs basic life support and participates in emergent/non-emergent drug treatment management
- Assists in the communication and coordination of pharmacy activities with Nursing Services by making recommendations for solutions/procedures in applicable areas.
- Effectively conveys expertise in clinical pharmacy to hospital staff using written and verbal communication skills. Established rapport and maintains effective working relationships with other health care team members.
- Serves as an effective clinical educator for pharmacy, nursing and other health-care team members and/or the public. Engages learning at all levels of development, including students and trainees; demonstrates commitment to helping learners succeed regardless of professional background; regularly participates in interprofessional activities.
- Develops and implements quality programs and initiatives pertaining to assigned clinical area. Assists with medication use evaluations and other special projects as assigned. Participates in P&T and other committee meetings applicable to clinical area.
Education and Experience
Graduate of accredited College of Pharmacy.
Completion of PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency or 5 year of clinical experience in addition to board certification required.
Required License/CertificationsDoctor of Pharmacy or BS in Pharmacy and licensed in the state of Texas and Sterile IV certification
