Overview

Material/Process Inspector I-III Beaumont District Lab (2601205)

TxDOT's Beaumont District is looking for a Material/Process Inspector I-III to join the Lab Team. The lab tests materials used in the construction of state highways (e.g., flexible base, embankment, concrete aggregates) and ensures that they meet the requirements in TxDOT's Standard Specifications to ensure quality and longevity of infrastructure.

Position Details

Material Process Inspector I - B18 ($45,521-$71,055)

Material Process Inspector II - B19 ($48,244-$76,028)

Material Process Inspector III - B20 ($51,158-$81,351)

This position is for a Material/Process Inspector I, II or III. The Texas Department of Transportation reserves the sole right in determining the level of position based on business needs and the applicants' work experience, education, skill level, and other appropriate factors.

Salary

Minimum Salary: 45,521.00

Maximum Salary: 81,351.00

Responsibilities

Performs material tests and manufacturing process inspections in laboratories, plants and/or at points of supply. Follows standard practices with limited supervision.

Material/Process Inspector I:

  • Conducts nuclear density tests on subgrade, base and asphaltic concrete pavement.
  • Conducts pavement evaluations in the field.
  • Coordinates test and inspection results with engineers, inspectors, material producers and suppliers.
  • Investigates compaction problems associated with hot mix asphaltic concrete.
  • Maintains and calibrates equipment.
  • Performs tests and inspection duties.
  • Records test data on worksheets and performs calculations to convert raw data into specific units of measurement.
  • Secures, logs in and prepares samples of raw materials or manufactured materials at various stages of production for testing.
  • Drives/travels to laboratories, manufacturing plants, points of supply, warehouses and project sites to monitor status of programs.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

Material/Process Inspector II:

  • Handles material or production problems referred by less experienced inspectors.
  • Prepares and maintains inspection or test reports and issues material reports.
  • Reviews plans and material specifications for changes in material requirements.
  • Conducts pavement evaluations in the field.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

Material/Process Inspector III:

  • Advises supervisor of inspection activities and problems at plants and assists in coordinating inspections.
  • Coordinates test and inspection results with engineers, inspectors, material producers and suppliers and field construction personnel; may assist in determining cause for material problems.
  • Orders equipment and supplies.
  • Analyzes procedures to identify deficiencies and recommends improvements to management.
  • Observes tests and inspections and reviews reports from other inspectors; performs quality assurance for tests and inspections.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.

Experience:

Material/Process Inspector I: No experience required

Material/Process Inspector II: 1 year laboratory work, material inspection or related engineering work.
