Overview

Texas Oncology is looking for a Oncology Clinic Licensed Vocational Nurse (LPN/LVN) to join our team in Beaumont, Texas. This position can be Level I, II or Senior based on relevant candidate experience.

What

does the Clinical LVN/LPN do?

Under general supervision, provides general nursing care for patients following established standards and practices. Maintains efficient patient flow, assists with patient care such as vitals, assessments and procedures. Maintains physicians’ schedule and performs miscellaneous tasks assigned by physicians. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

Responsibilities
  • Provides general nursing care to patients.
  • Assists with Canopy dashboard and work queues—responds timely to Canopy calls and educates patients regarding medications and treatment instructions.
  • Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards.
  • Assists with preparation of equipment and aids physician during examination and procedures.
  • Observes, records, and reports patients’ condition and reaction to drugs and treatments to physicians.
  • Administers prescribed medications as directed.
  • Screens patients for appropriate information and instructs patients in collection of specimen samples for testing.
  • Responds to and refers incoming telephone calls. Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions.
  • Records patient data prior to each physician visit, including vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes.
  • Performs EKG and oxymetry readings as required by physician.
  • Obtains blood specimens from peripheral sites as needed in accordance with OSHA and universal precautions.
  • Phones in prescriptions and makes other patient calls as required or directed by physicians.
  • Maintains patient files, records and other information.
  • Initiates IV fluids and IV therapeutic medications in accordance with LPN/LVN state nurse practice act.
Qualifications
  • High school graduate or equivalent (Level I). Graduate from an accredited school for practical nursing.

    Experience:

    0–3 years practical nurse. Phlebotomy experience preferred. Current LPN state license and registration with the State Board. Current BLS certification required within 3 months of hire.
  • At least three (3) years experience as a practical nurse (Level II).
  • Minimum of five (5) years experience as a practical nurse in a hospital or clinic (Level Senior). Current BLS certification required.
Physical Demands

Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye‑hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time and occasionally lifts and carries items up to 40 lbs. Requires vision and hearing within normal range.

Work Environment

Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medical preparations and other conditions common to an oncology/hematology clinic environment.
