The Clinical Coordinator for the Nursing Program is responsible for, but not limited to, facilitating orientation of clinical preceptors, serving as the primary point of contact between the clinical affiliates and the nursing program, making required visits to designated clinical sites, and assisting nursing faculty course teams in scheduling students for clinical/simulation laboratory assignments to ensure educationally sound experiences. The Clinical Coordinator is also responsible for teaching designated nursing courses.

This position works under the direction of the Director of Nursing.

• Facilitate faculty, staff, and student orientation to facilities
• Provide required documentation to clinical facilities
• Collaborate with the Nursing Program Director on student, faculty, and laboratory schedules
• Recommend budget items required to implement laboratory and clinical instruction
• Recommend simulation and laboratory policies
• Promote a laboratory and clinical teaching environment conducive to the teaching/learning process
• Participate in development and implementation of the curriculum
• Participate in faculty meetings, faculty development, recruitment initiatives, and committees necessary to further development and growth of the nursing program
• Maintain knowledge of the nurse educator and nursing students roles according to the Texas Board of Nursing
• Treat students with dignity, respect, and provide timely responses to student inquiry
• Maintain an ongoing relationship with the community and affiliate agencies to promote responsiveness to community needs
• Recommend policies to maintain safety laboratory and clinical settings
• Promote innovative simulation and clinical instruction which follow syllabus guidelines
• Promote best practices for teaching and evaluating clinical reasoning and judgement in laboratories and in the clinical setting
• Demonstrate sensitivity to individual student needs and facilitate reasonable accommodations according to policy
• Supervise Simulation Specialist and Clinical Teaching Assistant
• Assist Program Director for Nursing with required reporting
• Develop a regular schedule for visiting clinical affiliate sites and obtain evaluation data (clinical agency evaluation of clinical rotation experience)
• Counsel and advise students as needed and in accordance with LIT, Department of Healthcare & Sciences, and Nursing Program policy
• Analyze faculty teaching and provide input to student performance evaluation and make necessary recommendations in accordance with regulatory agencies and nursing program guidelines
• Be available for students/clinic educators during all clinical hours
• Maintain current knowledge of program policies, procedures, and student progress
• Utilize and promote teamwork strategies and competencies
• Work cooperatively with the Program Director and clinical preceptors to complete and update clinical evaluation tools, handbooks, and clinical curriculum
• Oversee completion of clinical education documents including records of student performance and competency procedures
• Participate in the programmatic/college accreditation process and all necessary assessment processes
• Participate in recruitment and retention efforts
• Process good verbal and written communication skills
• Promote timely completion of evaluation and documentation of student performance as required, and in compliance with college, state, CoARC, and SACSCOC standards

• Current license or privilege to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Texas
• Master’s degree in nursing
• A nurse faculty holding a master’s degree or doctorate degree in a discipline other than nursing shall hold a bachelor’s degree in nursing from an approved or accredited baccalaureate program in nursing and shall have at least six (6) graduate…
