Environmental Specialist (Permian Basin)

Schedule:
9-hour workdays (plus lunch) with rotating Fridays off

We are seeking an Environmental Specialist to support operations across the Permian Basin in Texas and New Mexico. This position plays a critical role in protecting the company's license to operate by securing environmental approvals, reducing compliance and schedule risk, and translating environmental requirements into actionable guidance for field operations.
The successful candidate will work closely with regulatory agencies, construction teams, land and asset groups, engineers, contractors, and field personnel to ensure environmental requirements are properly identified, communicated, and executed throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities Regulatory Compliance & Permitting- Manage environmental permits, approvals, and regulatory requirements supporting drilling, completions, construction, and operational activities.
- Coordinate with agencies including the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), New Mexico Oil Conservation Division (NMOCD), Texas Railroad Commission (TXRRC), and other regulatory authorities.
- Support Applications for Permit to Drill (APDs), Environmental Assessments, conservation reviews, floodplain permits, pit registrations, and associated approvals.
- Track permit conditions, agency commitments, and Conditions of Approval (COAs) to ensure compliance throughout project execution.
- Identify environmental constraints, required surveys, mitigation measures, and regulatory triggers early in project planning.
- Evaluate biological, cultural, wetlands (WOTUS), karst, threatened and endangered species habitats, nesting restrictions, and other environmental considerations.
- Develop practical mitigation strategies and communicate requirements to project stakeholders.
- Perform Clear-to-Construct reviews and support environmental readiness for field activities.
- Develop and maintain environmental constraint maps, field guidance documents, seasonal restriction requirements, and permit condition summaries.
- Verify environmental requirements are incorporated into construction, drilling, completions, and operations activities.
- Conduct inspections and support environmental compliance monitoring programs.
- Maintain accurate records, agency reporting, environmental commitments, and regulatory documentation.
- Support audits and ensure documentation is complete, accurate, and defensible.
- Coordinate environmental surveys and oversee contractor deliverables, schedules, and technical reports.
- Collaborate with land, engineering, permitting, portfolio development, regulatory, and field operations teams.
- Provide environmental guidance, recommendations, and project management support to internal stakeholders.

- Diploma, Associate's Degree, or Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Health, Safety & Environment (HSE), Natural Resources, Biology, Ecology, or a related discipline.
