Summary
Performs skilled labor and drives truck(s) to help construct, repair and maintain county roads and bridges, drainage ditches, and culverts.
Essential Job Functions- Assists Equipment Operators in the construction, repair and maintenance of county roads, bridges, drainage ditches and culverts; drives and operates trucks including dump trucks, water trucks, front end loaders, slope mowers, tractors, spreaders, rollers, mowers, sweepers, and bush hog;
- May utilize hand and power tools for routine maintenance of vehicles and facilities;
- Performs manual labor tasks.
- Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position.
Performs other job related duties as directed.

Education & Experience- High school graduate or GED preferred;
- Two years of experience in road construction or skilled facility maintenance work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Experience in operating a slope mower is desirable.
Valid Texas Commercial Drivers License preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities- Knowledge of: tools, equipment, methods, and materials used in public works and facility construction, maintenance, and repair activities; the practices followed in the care and safe operation of trucks, motorized equipment, and power tools; the precautions necessary to work safely around mechanized equipment; basic air conditioning, carpentry, electrical, painting, and plumbing tasks.
- Skill in: the safe use of common hand tools and light power equipment; performing manual labor for protracted periods of time; understanding and complying with oral and written instructions; working effectively with others on a team or crew.
Trucks, including dump truck, water trucks, front end loaders, slope mowers, tractors, spreaders, rollers, mowers, sweepers, and bush hog, and/or power tools necessary for routine maintenance of vehicles, other tools and equipment related to job performance.
Work Situations/Demands/EffortsJob requires flexibility in order to perform a variety of tasks; performing routine, repetitive duties; driving trucks and operating road equipment.
Working ConditionsWork is performed primarily outside. Worker is subject to adverse weather and environmental conditions, including temperature extremes, humidity, and precipitation; noise and vibration from heavy equipment; physical hazards from moving machinery, equipment with moving parts, and traffic; adverse atmospheric conditions from dust, fumes and chemicals.
Physical RequirementsJob duties require heavy work; working on uneven surfaces; may move materials and equipment up to 100 lbs. by lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling; constant standing and/or walking (more than 75 percent of the time) is required. Duties require appropriate safety precautions.
