Fleet Equipment Technician II; Automotive, Heavy Equipment

Fleet Equipment Technician II – Under general supervision, performs skilled mechanical repairs on vehicles and motorized equipment including trailers.

• Perform basic tune‑ups on gasoline and diesel engines.
• Work on mechanical, electrical, hydraulic/pneumatic, suspension, and cooling systems and components (including removal and reinstallation).
• Perform repairs and maintenance on heavy equipment such as crawler loaders, backhoes, and bulldozers.
• Conduct preventive maintenance on vehicles.
• Perform basic wheel alignments on vehicles.
• Operate and use an acetylene torch in equipment repair.
• Record maintenance and service information on designated forms.

• Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent plus two (2) years of experience in a related field.
• Experience may substitute for education up to a maximum of four (4) years.
• Completion of an accredited automotive, diesel, or related certification program may substitute for experience up to a maximum of six (6) months.
• An associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field may substitute for experience, up to a maximum of two (2) years.

• Class "C" Driver’s license; must obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within 120 days of employment.
• License as a Texas State Vehicle Inspector within six (6) months of employment.
• EPA certification within six (6) months of employment for air conditioning service, repairs, and Freon recovery.

• Work in a service center environment with exposure to motorized equipment, spare parts, tools, oil, and hazardous materials.
• Exposure to loud noise, warm and cold conditions, standing for long periods, frequent stooping and bending, lifting up to 50 pounds.
• Good eye‑and‑hand coordination; ability to read and write in dimly lit conditions.

• Must provide own hand tools including wrenches, sockets, ratchets, toolbox, etc.; meet minimum hand tool requirements within six (6) months of employment.

Schedule may vary and can include day, evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday hours. The role may be assigned to different locations and may require participation in a rotational on‑call program, including field repairs outside regular hours.

$25.22 – $29.70

This position is designated as Essential. In emergencies, essential employees may be called back, modify schedule, or be retained on site.
