Job Summary
A Facilities Maintenance Technician in an educational setting plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation and upkeep of the institution’s facilities. This position involves performing routine inspections and maintenance of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and other building systems to ensure they are functioning efficiently and safely. The technician is responsible for diagnosing and repairing issues, implementing preventive maintenance schedules, and responding promptly to emergency maintenance requests.
Adherence to safety regulations and protocols is crucial to maintaining a safe environment for students and staff. Additionally, the technician must maintain detailed records of all maintenance activities and communicate effectively with other staff members. This role requires a combination of technical skills, problem-solving abilities, physical stamina, and a commitment to maintaining a functional and comfortable environment for everyone in the educational institution.
Candidate may be required to work flexible hours and perform other duties as required. This position is considered as essential, and employees may be required to work as scheduled when most or all other university offices are closed due to emergency situations or natural disasters.
- Conduct routine inspections of electrical, plumbing, and other building systems to ensure they are functioning properly.
- Implement and follow preventive maintenance schedules to avoid equipment breakdowns and extend the life of the building systems.
- Respond promptly to emergency maintenance requests and perform necessary urgent repairs to buildings and/or infrastructure.
- Assist craftsmen of various trades in performing repairs or maintenance as required.
- Maintain detailed records of daily maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs
- Perform other duties as directed.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Completion of an apprenticeship program or other formal training in a trades program such as HVAC, electrical or plumbing.
- Applicant should have at least 1-years of experience in a related field with certified completion of related formal training.
- When no formal training has occurred, applicant should have at least 3-years of job-related experience.
- A valid Texas driver’s license is required.
Qualifications:
- Proven working experience as a general maintenance technician, such as performing building maintenance at an apartment complex, or a similar position in the facility maintenance industry is preferred.
- Completion of formal training in a related building-trades craft is preferred.
- Broad general knowledge of competencies in the building trades technical field.
- Familiarity with OSHA standards and other safety regulations.
- Proficiency in using tools and equipment for maintenance and repairs.
- Ability to diagnose and repair urgent building deficiencies.
- Good verbal and written communication skills to interact with staff and document work.
- Provide exemplary customer service to the staff, faculty and students.
- Prolonged periods of standing and walking
- Climbing ladders and stairs
- Ability to reach overhead and work in awkward positions.
- Good hand and eye coordination.
Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, weather, fumes, temperature and noise extremes.
