Head Start Community Aide

Assists with the Social Services component within Head Start guidelines. Works directly with parents interested in enrolling their child (ren) and/ or enrolled in the program. This position assists in recruiting, enrolling, attendance, and family partnership agreements.

Qualifications:

  • Education/Certification:

    High School Diploma (or equivalent) Social Services Background (optional)
  • Special Knowledge/

    Skills:

    Effective organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Knowledge of city, state and federal social services programs Ability to use computer and office-type software Proficient typing, word processing, and file management skills

    Experience:

    Work with children and/or families

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Works cooperatively with parents, staff and students in a positive professional manner while performing daily work.
  • Treats children and co-workers in a fair and equitable manner.
  • Feels comfortable offering suggestions and ideas for effective operations of the Family/Community Partnership content area.
  • Willing to be part of a team striving to provide families with a positive Head Start experience.
  • Assists in the recruiting and enrolling of children including determination of eligibility, verification of age and income, onsite recruitment in local target areas, and distribution of information about the program.
  • Monitors absences of children and make home contacts or visits as necessary.
  • Provides direct services to families as needed maintaining appropriate documentation as required by Head Start Performance Standards.
  • Refer families to appropriate agencies as needed maintaining appropriate documentation as required by Head Start Performance Standards.
  • Develops a Family Partnership Agreement for each family using the appropriate documentation.
  • Provides parents with updated information on available community services.
  • Maintains thorough, accurate documentation of all social services activities a required by Head Start Performance Standards.
  • Transports children and / or parents as needed.
  • Attends selected workshops and participates in activities in order to maintain a knowledge of current Head Start practices and procedures concerning social services.
  • Input family and student data in the program designated management system.
  • Maintains contact with teachers in order to share relevant information concerning the child and /or family. Assures confidentiality is maintained for all students and families.
  • Assist parents with concerns about their children.
  • Collaborate with community agencies to help meet the needs of the Head Start families served.
  • Participate in professional organizations
  • Attend professional workshops and classes
  • Develop professional skills appropriate to job assignment including a Family Service Worker credential.
