Description
Safely and efficiently operates heavy equipment to perform a series of manual activities and tasks to complete work assignments.
Duties & Responsibilities Essential Job Functions- Primarily responsible for operating mowers on the Airport grass areas, including Air Traffic Tower controlled areas of the airfield within the safety areas and grass areas along the hi-way frontage.
- Inspects, services, and makes minor repairs to equipment and reports malfunctions.
- Exercises extreme caution in equipment operation, may operate other equipment types as needed.
- Assisting other maintenance personnel with tasks, including but not limited to minor construction or demolition, facility repairs, plumbing. Assisting Airport electrician with projects and airfield lighting system repairs.
- Assisting any Airport department as needed (ARFF, Fuel Service, and Administration).
- Operates heavy equipment and operates trucks to transport equipment, refuse and/or materials to and from work sites.
- Assignments will include:
- maintain grass height in sensitive airfield areas;
- remove brush and debris – site clearing
- report any safety or security issues to supervisor
- operate other equipment as assigned
- escort people and vehicles in and out of Regulated areas of Airport
- May be assigned to work with and the application of herbicides.
- Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position.
Job Functions:
May be deemed an essential employee during emergencies, such as hurricanes and other major weather events, aircraft incidents. Performs other job-related duties, as directed.

Education & ExperienceHigh School Diploma or GED; fuel/hazardous material handling, maintenance and overall operation; 2 to 3 years of related job experience.
Specialized RequirementsMust have Texas Driver’s License and excellent driving record. Must have valid Texas Driver’s License (preference for those with a CDL). Successful applicant is subject to a 10-year background check to include education, employment, criminal history, and fingerprinting. Experience operating and maintaining: tractors with mowing and front-end loader attachments, zero-turn mowers, and excavators is highly preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, & AbilitiesClear verbal and written communication skills; basic computer/data entry skills; strong interpersonal skills including ability to cooperate with co-workers and to deal effectively with government officials, emergency first responders, and the general public. Must be able to learn the proper operating procedures and servicing requirements of assigned equipment; regulations involved with operating in controlled areas of the Airport; knowledge of potential work hazards and applicable safety precautions associated with assigned equipment.

Tractors up to 110 horsepower, bat-wing mowers, zero-turn mowers, tractors with front-end loaders, fork-lift, two-way radios & airfield radios, motorized airfield sweeper; motorized pavement pressure washer, small excavator, small hand tools, chainsaw, concrete saw.
Work Situations/Demands/EffortsWork requires attention to detail and situational awareness; working alone and as part of a group; flexibility in order to perform a variety of duties; performing routine, repetitive duties; driving vehicles; operating machinery; must be available to work irregular hours.
Working ConditionsWork is performed outside and /or in a vehicle more than 50 percent of time. Employee may be subject to adverse weather and environmental conditions, including temperature extremes, humidity and precipitation; noise and vibration; machinery and equipment with moving parts; adverse atmospheric conditions from dust, fuel and chemical fumes, smoke, etc.
Physical RequirementsJob duties require heavy work;
Duties also require frequent walking and standing; climbing; reaching; driving vehicles; operating machinery; handling fuel and other hazardous material. Appropriate safety precautions must be observed.
