Job Overview

Materials Management Specialist (Vehicle Driver II) – Region 5 Administration, Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC).

Location:

Beaumont, TX. Full‑time day shift. Transportation and vehicle maintenance, warehouse operations, mail and shipping support, and furniture/machinery installation support are primary responsibilities.

• Drive and maintain state agency trucks and cargo vans, including safe loading/unloading, route planning, and minor vehicle repairs.
• Receive, sign, inspect, and distribute packages in the mailroom/warehouse to HHS offices throughout the region.
• Process and deliver mail, returns, and shipping, including postage calculations and carrier account management.
• Operate warehouse equipment (forklifts, pallet jacks, dollies, power lifts, golf carts) to move, store, and inventory supplies and surplus state property.
• Assemble and install furniture, modular office equipment, and other hardware for HHS customers.
• Perform minor building maintenance (painting, plumbing fixture adjustments, ceiling tile replacement, etc.).
• Assist office moves, lock‑out/tag‑out, and oversee contractor/vendor activities for moves and installations.
• Serve on the Regional Disaster Deployment Team, delivering, setting up, and monitoring emergency equipment and supplies.
• Maintain accurate vehicle logs, generate monthly fleet reports, and file transport/disposal documents for surplus property.
• Train and coach new hires on vehicle safety and operational procedures.

• Drive, inspect, and maintain agency vehicles, conduct minor repairs, manage logs, and produce monthly vehicle reports.
• Perform shipping, receiving, and mail service duties, including verification of deliveries, routing, mis‑routing resolution, and carrier account maintenance.
• Execute all warehouse tasks, using motorized and manual equipment, monitoring inventory, and coordinating replenishment.
• Assemble, install, and modify office furniture and equipment for HHS customers.
• Provide disaster‑deployment support, including equipment deployment and setup throughout the state.

Valid Class C Texas Driver’s License. No additional certification required.

• Knowledge of motor vehicle operations, maintenance, and safe cargo handling.
• Knowledge of state and federal traffic regulations for cargo and mail delivery.
• Knowledge of warehousing procedures and safe use of motorized equipment.
• Skill in operating motor vehicles (panel trucks, cargo vans with or without trailer) and in managing multiple priorities.
• Skill in standard agency computer applications (Microsoft Word, Outlook).
• Ability to obey traffic laws, maintain vehicle and equipment records, and perform basic math.
• Ability to operate specialized equipment such as postage meters, copiers, bindery equipment.
• Ability to utilize documentation systems (CAPPS, CAFM).
• Ability to lift, pull, push, and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to perform minor building maintenance or repair tasks.
• Ability to follow verbal and written directions, communicate effectively, and maintain professional relationships.
• Ability to travel locally and across the state, potentially including overnight stays.

• High school diploma or GED.
• Effective written communication.
• Preferred: experience shipping, receiving, sorting, and distributing furniture, supplies, or equipment.
• Preferred: experience operating warehouse equipment (forklift, pallet jack, dolly).
• Preferred: experience driving panel truck and/or cargo van, and pulling trailer.
