Design Engineer / Project Manager

Kunkel Engineering Group is seeking an experienced candidate for the Design Engineer / Project Manager position in Beaver Dam, WI or West Bend, WI. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker and group leader who is self‑motivated, budget conscious, and possesses effective communication, team‑building, and project‑management skills.

  • Design municipal public works and utilities.
  • Assist with construction contract/project management and administration.
  • Experience designing municipal projects.
  • Experience in project permitting.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and other design‑related programs.
  • Registered Professional Engineer in Wisconsin or the ability to obtain licensure within two years.

Building Inspector

Kunkel Engineering Group is seeking experienced Building Inspectors to support areas of Dodge, Green Lake, Washington, and Waupaca Counties. This position offers great opportunity for dynamic, motivated self‑starters to work on a variety of assignments.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Read and examine plans and specifications when required.
  • Perform field inspections during various stages of construction.
  • Report violations and maintain files/records.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
  • Extensive knowledge of local building codes and current construction procedures/technology.
  • Interpretation of codes in the field and ability to provide code‑compliant solutions.
  • Positive interaction with staff, contractors, the general public, governmental entities, and other clientele.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good time management, organization, and attention to detail skills.
  • Knowledge of municipal zoning ordinances and codes.
  • Ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • State of WI Commercial Building Inspector certification.
  • State of WI UDC Construction, HVAC, Plumbing, and Electrical certification.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in municipal code inspections.
  • Knowledge or experience with zoning administration (not required).
  • High School or equivalent.
  • Good driving record & valid WI driver’s license.

GIS Specialist / GIS & Field Data Coordinator

Ideal candidate should be self‑motivated, possess excellent communication skills, and pay strong attention to detail.

EXPERIENCE

Three years of prior GIS experience, with consulting experience preferred. The ideal candidate will collaborate with engineers, hydro geologists, project managers, and other technical staff in the preparation of drawings, designs, and figures associated with technical documents.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Plan and control work process, including:
    • Managing resources to meet utilization objectives.
    • Leading process improvement initiatives.
    • Ensuring quality control procedures are implemented.
    • Mentoring and monitoring standard operating procedures.
    • Implementing safety protocols.
  • Team with upper management to develop strategy and tactics to grow the practice and support the environmental national practice.
  • Manage projects, including financial management, contract negotiation, directing technical work, and client and regulatory liaison.
  • Stay abreast of current GIS technology and inspire innovation among team members.
  • Perform as a technical resource in field of expertise and mentor to others.
  • Achieve utilization of at least 50 %.
  • Knowledge of GIS software, including ESRI’s ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS for Desktop suite, and development of web‑based GIS platforms using ArcGIS Enterprise and ArcGIS Online.
  • Strong background in database management practices and an understanding of relational data management systems.
  • Knowledge of and experience with software tangential to GIS applications and the ability to support and integrate into existing or new GIS workflows.
