American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU/IMC position at an acute care facility in Wisconsin, requiring at least 1 year of PCU or ICU experience and Cerner proficiency.
Requirements- Active WI or Compact RN license required by start date
- Current AHA BLS and AHA ACLS certifications required
- Minimum 1 year of PCU or ICU experience required (Med‑Surg Tele experience alone is not sufficient)
- Cerner EMR experience required
- 2 professional references required for consideration: 1 supervisor reference from within the last 12 months of relevant experience, and 1 peer or supervisor reference from within the last 3 years of relevant experience
- Work in a combined PCU/IMC/Med‑Surg unit within an acute care hospital setting
- Unit has 12 beds plus 4 ICU rooms, with an average census of 8 patients
- Patient population includes pneumonia/COVID, post‑op orthopedic cases (knees, hips), and fall‑related injuries
- Nurse‑to‑patient ratios: 1:3–5 overall; ICU 1:3; IMC/PCU 1:3–4;
Med‑Surg 1:5; team nursing model with RN and LPN covering up to 7 patients total; minimum 2 RNs in the department at all times - RNs are required to titrate drips, including Amiodarone and Heparin (IMCU), and Levo, Cardizem, Dobutamine, and pressors (ICU)
- Remote telemetry monitoring in use; RNs are responsible for reading and interpreting their own telemetry strips
- Travelers may be asked to step into a charge nurse role; charge nurse typically carries a small patient assignment
- 12‑hour night shifts
- Every 3rd weekend rotation required (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
- Low‑census on‑call rotation required, with a 45‑minute response time; less likely to be placed on call if willing to float to other areas
- Floating to the ED for tasking or holding patients is an option in lieu of going on call/losing hours
- Charting system:
Cerner (transitioning to Epic);
Cerner experience required - 13‑week contract
- Candidates who have previously worked for this health system must have an end date at least 6 months prior to their application date
- Candidates residing within 80 miles of the facility are considered local, which may affect the travel pay rate
- Holiday coverage required for 2 out of every 3 holidays
- CNA support available when census exceeds 6 patients (1 CNA on unit)
- Ventilated patients are transferred to a higher level of care
- Scheduling is self‑directed with support from a dedicated scheduler; travelers are asked to be flexible in filling permanent staff schedule gaps
- Block scheduling will be considered but is not guaranteed
- Solid color scrubs required (any color)
- Orientation consists of 4 hours of computer‑based training and 8 hours of floor training
- Travel duos are welcome to apply
