Job Summary
Enforces Sanford policies and procedures with all patients, visitors and staff. Patrols and secures facility buildings and grounds as assigned. Monitors conduct of visitors on premises and confronts unauthorized persons for questioning.
ResponsibilitiesSchedule:
Monday - Friday, 3:00PM - 11:00PM. Reports safety, fire hazards or security violations. Responds to all requests for assistance from employees and visitors. Assists with any and all situation; i.e., problem‑solving with positive outcomes. May escort personnel to and from parking areas as requested.
Maintains records and prepares incident reports and other documents pertinent to security activities. Works with all age groups. Prioritises calls for service in order of urgency based on safety needs.
Sanford security officers are expected to work in highly stressful situations, de‑escalating as soon as possible, or using security tools—including a firearm—when necessary to protect and preserve life. Officers must remain aware of local laws affecting behaviour on private property.
The Senior Security Officer requires carrying authorized weapons and ammunition. Required skills include effective communication with customers, professional report writing, and physical ability to perform basic security functions as trained.
May have access to medication storage areas to perform job‑related functions.
May work in adverse conditions such as severe weather, disaster activations, fatality transport, or temporary reassignment to other Sanford locations. Carries a firearm in addition to other issued tools. Must demonstrate proficiency upon hire/transfer and meet all ongoing certification requirements for carrying a firearm.
QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent preferred; college or vocational education preferred.
Prior experience in healthcare security, contract security, and/or law enforcement highly preferred. Must pass a criminal background check. Prior law‑enforcement experience and state certification are necessary.
Must possess a current valid driver’s licence with Sanford insurability. Basic certification by the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety required within one year of hire.
