Student Success Coach

The Student Success Coach is primarily responsible for providing academic coaching services to students. The Coach will monitor, counsel, and motivate students in both individual appointment and classroom settings. The Student Success Center provides a variety of support services to students who are academically underprepared, have a disability, or encounter challenges that inhibit their academic performance.

Core Duties
  • Schedule and complete individual appointments with students on academic probation, students who have low grades, and students who have voluntarily signed up to receive academic coaching.
  • Regularly communicate with students regarding appointment scheduling and re-scheduling through routine in-person, email, and phone contact. Respond to student inbound communication within reasonable time frames.
  • Counsel students facing academic challenges and/or personal obstacles.
  • Work with students in developing success strategies that lead to positive academic outcomes.
  • Assist and collaborate with faculty advisors by helping map out course schedules for students on academic probation.
  • Refer students to proper support services that may include, but not limited to, alternative Student Development departments, tutoring, library services, Financial Aid, ITS, or other departments as needed.
Services to Students with Disabilities
  • Collect documentation of diagnosed disabilities and maintain confidential files.
  • Consult with Director for accommodation approval.
  • Monitor progress of students with disabilities in meeting academic goals.
  • Assist students in developing self-efficacy by identifying and overcoming obstacles that may be impeding academic success.
  • Make referrals to other appropriate support services on campus.
  • Motivate students to practice self-regulation and encourage their academic and personal development.
  • Help students learn how to utilize assistive technology as needed.
  • Promote disability awareness through departmental programming and initiatives.
  • Counsel prospective students and families for participation in related Student Success Center services.
Services for Probationary Students
  • Monitor students on academic probation through regular communication and coaching appointments.
  • Provide study skill development in coaching meetings.
  • Effectively communicate academic warning, academic probation, academic suspension, and satisfactory academic progress policies to students.
  • Provide accountability sessions and goal-oriented guidance to promote academic success, as well as encouraging active participation.
  • Assist with class registration for incoming probationary students.
  • Counsel prospective students and families for participation in related Student Success Center services.
Class Instruction and Programming
  • Instruct EDU 099:
    Foundations of Academic Success, to all incoming academic probation students.
  • Assist with regular programming initiatives for students with disabilities and students connected with the Student Success Center.
Retention Management
  • Follow up on assigned academic care reports as delegated by the Director.
  • Identify students who may be at risk of failing and/or withdrawing and proactively work with students and manage the coordination of support offered to them.
  • Work collaboratively with faculty, departmental program directors, and athletic coaches to aid in supporting students connected with the Student Success Center for academic coaching.
  • Utilize predictive modeling for targeted first-year student contact.
  • Monitor retention progress with specific student populations (ie. academic probation, student-athletes, students with disabilities).
Other Duties
  • Assist with Student Development program initiatives as assigned.
  • Assist with Student Development event days (ie. Welcome Week, Career Fair).
  • Assist with other duties as assigned.
