Assistant Director of the Center for Calling and Career

The Assistant Director of the Center for Calling and Career serves as a critical member of the Calling and Career team. This position is uniquely designed to provide students with personally tailored support in their vocational journey and is responsible for establishing student relationships for the purpose of counsel and coaching in all areas of self-discovery and growth as it relates to life callings, major exploration, life-planning, professional development, and job and internship searching and preparation.

This position will serve a variety of campus populations including prospective students, undergraduates, graduate students, alumni, and employers, initiating ways to further the calling and career conversation with the campus community. This position reports to the Assistant Dean of Calling and Career & Strategic Initiatives and may also supervise undergraduate student workers and volunteers.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Vocational Coaching and Advising:
  • Proactively create and develop positive relationships with students and alumni individually and collectively to help them understand the larger story of their life and how it informs their callings and vocational path.
  • As students progress in their understanding of themselves, coach them in how to put that understanding to use in pursuit of career-related experiences such as job-shadowing, internships, and eventually professional jobs.
  • Help students determine and articulate their personal values, priorities, and life goals so that they can make informed and strategic decisions regarding career path and life choices.
• Calling and Career Programs, Resources & Services:
  • Provide leadership for Envision, an annual event that brings cross-disciplinary student groups together to apply their faith and classroom skills to real community challenges by learning about local issues, collaborating on solutions, and presenting ideas that can make a meaningful impact.
  • Develop digital and print resources related to calling and career for students and alumni.
  • Participate in and co-lead efforts to weave calling and vocation into the four-year co-curricular plan, including planning and assisting with the sophomore retreat, summer fellows' program, and senior launch event.
  • Oversee Calling & Career marketing and communication efforts to student & alumni for all relevant events and programming.
  • Partner with faculty and staff to develop intentional student experiences specific to certain academic and professional interest areas.
  • Lead workshops and classes for groups of students developing them in key areas of calling and career.
  • Partner with Assistant Dean in planning and execution of annual career fairs as well as other campus events.
  • Actively participate in consortium job fairs such as:
    WestPACS, Bridges and Pathways and the Accounting and Finance Consortium
  • Utilize appropriate technology and online information resources in working with students.
  • Assist with employer recruitment efforts.
• Administrative & Leadership:
  • Initiate programs and events to further calling and career conversation within the campus community.
  • In effort to serve students more holistically, maintain accurate and up to date records of student meetings through the Handshake platform.
  • Help administer and collect data for annual First Destination Survey.
  • Respond to emails and communication in a timely and professional manner.
• Supervision:
  • Hire, train, develop, and supervise department's student workers/interns as needed.
  • Provide oversight on all marketing & communication efforts for Calling & Career office.
  • In the absence of the Assistant Dean, serve as the point person, with decision-making responsibility, for the Calling and Career team.
• Contribute to the Student Development Department:
  • Actively promote values, professional standards, and commitments of Student Development department.
  • Prioritize and regularly attend and contribute to Student Development via meetings, programs, committees, events, etc., leading when needed.
