Residence Director
The Residence Director is a full-time live-in position, active member of the Student Development department, and someone that oversees the execution of a Christian learning community within the residence hall setting. The Residence Director supervises and mentors the building of team leaders, providing programming for the hall and campus, developing relationships with residents, and overseeing the functioning of the residence hall.
In addition to this, the Residence Director also assists in coordinating housing responsibilities and serves as a judicial specialist.
Essential responsibilities include:
- Administrative tasks such as providing management, oversight and assistance with conduct hearings, meetings, mediations, creating RA training and Residence Life programming, communicating facility damages and charges, and completing RA hiring paperwork.
- Developmental duties like connecting students to campus resources, knowing students living in their residence hall, advising and giving guidance to students, coordinating RA's with residence hall social, educational, spiritual, and cultural programming, and promoting good communication and relationships.
- Oversight and supervision responsibilities such as maintaining regular contact with RA's, working closely with RA's and Building Team Leaders, managing the overall operation of the residence facility, maintaining and supporting the security of the residence hall, administering room sign-up, opening and closing residence hall, planning duty schedules for RA's, and overseeing class based and other area programming.
- Crisis management tasks including participating in an on-call duty rotation, responding and assisting with crisis management, intervention, and emergency response, and providing support and follow-up for students and staff involved in emergency situations.
- Student conduct responsibilities such as maintaining standards established by the College, hearing and adjudicating in hall disciplinary cases, and completing necessary paperwork and communication throughout the Student Conduct process.
- Housing and facilities management duties like assisting the Housing Coordinator with housing for new, returning and summer residents, developing, implementing and supervising programs and services in support of assigned housing program, developing and maintaining policies and procedures on housing, inspecting vacant rooms, maintaining publications regarding all housing information, and opening and closing residential facility complex for the academic year and other service periods.
- Training and selection tasks including organizing Resident Assistants in the residence hall, evaluating individual RAs and the overall Residence Life Program, creating, communicating, and carrying out vision for the residence hall community, participating in campus Residence Life staff orientation, and taking leadership in the selection, training, and evaluation of the Residence Life Staff.
- General responsibilities such as attending weekly meetings within Student Development and Residence Life, abiding by all College policies and regulations, enforcing all College policies, rules and regulations governing residence halls and houses, serving as a liaison with various College departments, completing all administrative responsibilities and tasks assigned by the Director of Residence Life, and staying Saturday after commencement to ensure every student is checked out.
