Description
Leidos' Defense Systems Kinetics Business Area is seeking a Principal AFSIM Analyst/Engineer to join our Strategic High-speed Advanced Development Organization. The candidate will apply domain knowledge to integrated digital engineering for conceptual system development, providing operational analysis and military utility assessments for our nation’s defense.
ResponsibilitiesAs an AFSIM Analyst/Engineer, you will assess and evaluate combat weapon systems using computer-based analytical tools, including the Advanced Framework for Simulation, Integration, or Modeling (AFSIM) analytical framework, Python, and in-house post-processing tools. You will evaluate combat weapon systems to determine system attributes and operational tactics that improve survivability against foreign threat systems. Your analysis informs acquisition decisions for future combat systems.
You will develop critical thinking, data analytics, and operations analysis skills while gaining experience in constructive modeling and simulation of combat operations.
Qualifications- 12+ years of related experience in simulation and modeling
- 8+ years of related experience utilizing the AFSIM analytical framework (or other related mission/engagement environments) to conduct operational analyses
- Experience performing operational analyses for the Department of Defense
- Knowledge of U.S. and foreign combat weapons systems, including aircraft and ground‑based air defense systems
- Ability to leverage problem‑solving to overcome engineering or code development challenges
- Ability to distill, summarize, and articulate complex technical insights and findings
- Ability to work in a dynamic team environment
- Ability to travel on an as‑needed basis
- Active Secret clearance
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or Computer Science or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or similar discipline and 10+ years’ experience. In lieu of degree, a High School diploma is acceptable with 16 years minimum experience.
- 5+ years of experience using AFSIM for mission modeling
- 10‑15 years of experience with data analytics or software development in an academic or professional environment
- Experience with the Linux operating environment
- Possession of excellent verbal and written communication skills
- TS/SCI clearance
- Experience with AFRL's Digital Lab Environment
- Experience with UAFML and SysML
- Master's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics field
- Experience with security best practices in C++ development
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a proven track record of effective teamwork
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, dedicated to delivering high‑quality, efficient software solutions
