Microelectronics Microscope Lab Engineer

The Opportunity:

Applies engineering physics, engineering mathematics, and materials science principles to support the design, analysis, manufacture, or maintenance of mechanical systems. Applies specific functional knowledge and working and general industry knowledge. Develops or contributes to solutions to a variety of problems of moderate scope and complexity. Works independently with some guidance, and reviews or guides activities of junior employees.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead development and optimization of image analysis techniques for microscopes and imaging systems.
  • Operate dual‑beam FIB‑SEM and prepare samples for analysis.
  • Utilize X‑ray CT systems for non‑destructive evaluation.
  • Conduct Confocal Scanning Acoustic Microscopy (C‑SAM).
  • Interpret and report on measurement data to support system performance.
  • Document procedures, maintain calibration records, and ensure compliance with safety protocols.

Required Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience with microscopes, imaging systems, and development or optimization of analysis techniques.
  • Proficiency with dual‑beam FIB‑SEM, X‑ray CT, and C‑SAM equipment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with LabVIEW, Test Stand, MATLAB, C, C++, Python, TCL, or similar scripting languages.
  • Background in functional and parametric custom IC test article evaluation.
  • Knowledge of industry standards such as JEDEC, MIL‑STD, or AEC reliability practices.
  • Experience with advanced reliability analyses: FMEA, step‑stress, high‑temperature accelerated life, operational life testing, wafer testing with DC and RF supply, physical and electrical failure analysis, thermal CW and transient imaging, X‑ray, electroluminescence, SEM.
  • Understanding of semiconductor physics and degradation mechanisms in GaN, SiC, and CMOS devices.
  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field preferred.

Security Clearance:

Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

Compensation and Benefits:

Salary range: $61,900 – $141,000 (annualized USD). Total compensation includes health, life, disability, financial, and retirement benefits, paid leave, professional development, tuition assistance, work‑life programs, and dependent care. Full‑time and part‑time employees working at least 20 hours a week on a regular basis are eligible for benefit programs. The projected compensation range is one component of the total compensation package. The posting will close within 90 days from the posting date.
