Beavercreek Police Department is a nationally accredited agency with a community‑oriented policing philosophy serving a growing and diverse community in western Greene County, Ohio (population 46,549 in 2020).
Note: 10-hour patrol schedule with rotating workdays.
Salary and BenefitsThe salary range is based on the current collective bargaining agreement: starting at $36.98/hour ($76,918) with annual increases to $52/hour ($108,160) after completion of the current contract in 2027. Starting salary for OPOTC certified candidates will be evaluated based on experience and prior salary. Salary ranges may change with the collective bargaining agreement between the city and FOP Lodge 160.
Officers receive shift differential pay, paid vacations, holiday pay, weekend differential pay, personal allowance days, and opportunities for overtime pay or compensatory time. Additional benefits include educational incentive bonuses, longevity bonuses, and attendance bonuses.

Applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications:
- Be at least 21 years old at appointment
- Lawfully eligible to work in the United States
- Possess a valid State of Ohio driver’s license
- Possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent
- Be able to work an 80-hour biweekly rotational schedule including weekends, evenings, nights and holidays on an assigned shift
- Available for on-call work
Applicants must also:
- Take the National Testing Network written exam (if applicable)
- Obtain a passing score (minimum 70%) on the structured oral interview
- Successfully pass other screening tests prior to appointment (Chief’s interview, polygraph/background investigation, post-polygraph, psychological evaluation and medical examination)
The selection process for probationary police officers includes up to 10 progressive steps. The applicant’s status as entry level or certified determines which steps are required.

- Documents that MUST be included with the application: driver’s license, high school diploma or equivalent, military form DD‑214 (if applicable), Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy certificate (if completed), handwritten letter answering: “Why you want to be a Beavercreek Police Officer.”
Handwritten letter must be in the applicant’s handwriting and explain why they want to be a Beavercreek Police Officer (3/4 to 1 full notebook page).
Each completed application packet will be reviewed for eligibility, qualifications, accuracy, and thoroughness. Incomplete packets may be rejected. The candidate may be pre‑screened for potential disqualifiers per BPD General Order 31.4.1.
2. Written examination
Non‑certified applicants and certified applicants with less than one year of service must take the written exam. NTN provides testing services; testing is open until further notice at the Chief of Police’s discretion. To register and schedule a test, visit NTN’s Beavercreek Police Department page and follow registration steps. A minimum score of 65% is required to advance. Applicants with a combined score of at least 65% on the written and video/PSSA components will advance.
Applicants failing to reach 65% may reapply after 3 months.
3. Structured oral interview
The interview panel evaluates decision making, interpersonal skills, administrative ability, motivation, and initiative. The interview has a maximum score of 100%; a minimum passing score is 70%. Those scoring 69% or below are eliminated but may reapply after 6 months. Ranks are determined by the structured interview score and vacancies determine progression.
