Responsibilities & Requirements

Advanced Practice Provider (APP) delivers heart & vascular health care services, synthesizing evidence‑based practice, research, and current clinical knowledge. The APP works collaboratively with a multidisciplinary health care team, demonstrating advanced medical or nursing knowledge, clinical competence, sound judgment, professionalism, timely documentation, and ongoing professional development. Responsibilities include history taking, clinical assessment, physical examination, order entry, diagnostic interpretation, clinical diagnosis, treatment planning, care evaluation, on‑call duties as assigned, and participation in inpatient weekend rotation.

Functions
  • Physician and APP complete Quality Assurance chart reviews (25 charts for new graduates, 10 charts for established providers) at the practice location.
  • Evaluate signs and symptoms, noting pertinent positives and negatives.
  • Assess complex acute, critical, and chronically ill patients and obtain comprehensive histories, prioritizing data collection and using collateral sources as necessary.
  • Develop and reformulate differential diagnoses, identify comorbidities, and use diagnostic strategies to monitor physiological function and ensure patient safety.
  • Participate in daily team transition huddles to facilitate coordinated patient care.
  • Utilize evidence‑based practice and prescribe appropriate pharmacologic (including medication reconciliation) and non‑pharmacologic treatments, implement orders, and interpret lab and diagnostic tests.
  • Monitor and ensure quality of the healthcare practice through consultation, collaboration, continuing education, certification, and evaluation.
  • Engage in interdisciplinary peer review to improve practice.
  • Adapt teaching and learning approaches based on patient characteristics and available resources.
  • Collaboratively identify processes and documentation standards to meet quality metrics.
Minimum Education

APRN:
Master’s degree with an Advanced Practice Nursing Focus and National Board Certification required.
PA:
Master’s degree required with the appropriate National Certification.

Required Certifications
  • APRN – National Board Certification as a CNP, CNS, CNM, or CRNA (matching scope of practice).
  • PA – National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
Required Licenses
  • Current Ohio Board of Nursing license for APRN.
  • Current Ohio License 50RX – License to practice as a physician assistant with prescriptive authority.

Maintain collaborative/supervision agreement as required through the Ohio Medial Board/Ohio Board of Nursing, including yearly review/Quality Assurance and evaluations.
