Machine Learning/ ML Engineer, AI Engineer, Data Scientist
Description
As a result of program growth, the Advanced Warfare Technology Division of the Leidos Innovation Center is looking for a Machine Learning Research Scientist to support remote sensing programs in Beavercreek, OH. As a Machine Learning Research Scientist you will apply your skills to a wide variety of problems and datasets, primarily focused on remote sensing (SAR/RF, acoustic, EO/IR, and LIDAR) applications.
You will work with a multi‑disciplined design team (Electrical Engineers, Physicists, Computer Scientists, etc.) to design, develop, simulate, and integrate new algorithms into sensor systems and data fusion solutions based on given project requirements. Current projects include but are not limited to detection, tracking, data fusion, and classification.
This is an exciting opportunity to help the Combat Identification team advance research and development for target recognition solutions where we develop a variety of combat identification (CID) algorithms and specialize in technologies to train these systems on synthetic data. You will lead technical project areas and have the opportunity to pursue growth in new technologies.
NOTE: This position requires about three quarters of the job duties to be performed onsite due to the sensitive nature of this work. Flexible in‑office hours and the ability to perform some duties remotely are offered.
Primary Responsibilities- Provide technical leadership for tasks and programs.
- Work with teams on the research, design, and development of sensor exploitation systems including signal processing, automatic target recognition, and signature modeling.
- Develop Automatic Target Recognition (ATR) algorithms using Python, MATLAB, C++, and other languages for real‑world applications. Leverage state‑of‑the‑art AI/ML tools and methods to improve ATR performance.
- Rapidly and iteratively implement new algorithms to address these challenges.
- Collaborate with customers to address mission requirements by researching and developing new capabilities and improving existing systems.
- Develop performance models and algorithms for new and/or existing target recognition solutions.
- Perform high‑level software development using Python, PyTorch, C++, MATLAB, Java or similar languages, including design, troubleshooting, and debugging.
- Collaborate with other experts within the program and the user community to design and develop enhancements that incorporate new capabilities into existing system components.
- Apply sound software engineering principles to ensure code is modifiable, efficient, reliable, understandable, fault‑tolerant, and reusable, including software process management and control throughout development.
- Contribute to software development as part of an agile team and actively participate in program increment planning, feature and story development, sprint planning, demos, and retrospectives.
- Provide inputs to test requests and reports, ensuring requirements and test objectives are evaluated and documented results accurately reflect analysis.
- Author, design, and apply DOE and combinatorial testing (CT) to test case design.
- Bachelor’s degree with 8+ years of relevant experience or Master’s degree with 6+ years of relevant experience. Doctorate in a technical domain is a plus.
- Effective communication of technical solutions to coworkers, teammates, and customers.
- Familiarity with common machine and deep learning packages such as Scikit‑Learn, PyTorch, etc.
- Experience developing computer vision applications.
- Strong programming ability in Python and/or C/C++ for Linux and Windows environments.
- Significant experience with Python and MATLAB.
- Familiarity with Linux and Windows operating systems.
