Software Engineer – Beavercreek, OH

Leidos is dedicated to making the world a safer place. The Non-Kinetic Effects Business Area in the Defense Sector is looking for a cleared Software Engineer to work in our Beavercreek, OH office. This opportunity will let you use your experience helping the Air Force Research Lab, Air Force Lifecycle Management Center, and other DoD missions. Your role will support our diverse portfolio of programs through software design and development, hardware interfacing and integration, laboratory experimentation, ground and flight testing, and deployment of cutting‑edge solutions.

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop and maintain mission‑critical software for national defense and intelligence gathering products for airborne and ground‑based systems.
  • Perform software engineering functions, including design, development, testing, troubleshooting, and debugging software programs for enhancements and new software‑intensive systems and products. Apply appropriate principles, standards, processes, procedures and tools throughout the software development life cycle.
  • Analyze software requirements, hardware compatibility, and develop software products and tools used for design, development and maintenance of infrastructure and platforms.
  • Develop technical solutions that require collaboration with internal experts, deep analyses and understanding of impact on end‑product/solution.
  • Develop solutions to technical problems and issues that are unclear and require deep technical knowledge.
  • Participate in laboratory, ground and flight testing to validate software.
  • Document and communicate proposed software solutions with integrated, cross‑functional engineering teams in a fast‑paced highly technical environment.
  • Work independently to achieve day‑to‑day objectives with significant impact on operational results or project deliverables.
  • Take responsibility for entire projects or processes within a technical area.
  • Stay up to date on state‑of‑the‑art programming techniques and software technologies.
  • Participate in software design and code reviews to ensure delivery of quality products and enhance skillsets.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree and 4‑8 years of prior relevant experience or a Master’s degree with 2‑4 years of experience in software engineering, computer engineering or related field.
  • Experience programming in one or more of the following languages: C++, Java, Python.
  • Experienced in systems integration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of complex system problems.
  • Experience working in a SIL environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally from informal one‑on‑one discussions or in a small group environment.
  • Work well within a team and independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work within a dynamic work environment, handle multiple tasks at once (multi‑task).
  • Deep understanding and ability to apply principles, theories, and concepts of technical domain and broad understanding of other related specialty areas.
  • Strong desire to grow and learn new technologies.
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Active DoD TS/SCI clearance.
  • Familiar with Agile Methodologies, preferably SCRUM or Kanban.
  • Experience with Atlassian tools such as JIRA, Confluence, Bitbucket.
  • Experience with model and simulation environments to support simulation and test.
  • Experience with Live and Virtual Constructive environments to understand complex systems and troubleshooting points for integration.
  • Familiarity with DoD Open Architectures such as OMS and SOSA.
  • Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker or Podman.
  • Experience with Kubernetes.
  • Experience developing and deploying to offline environments.
  • Strong understanding of Linux systems.
  • Experience with Unit Testing and CI/CD.
  • Strong understanding of IP based network protocols such as TCP, UDP, and HTTP.
  • Prior experience working with the DoD.
Security Clearance Requirements
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must have an active DoD Secret level security clearance.
