Description:
A global athletic brand is looking for a Creative Footwear Materials Designer to work on in-line projects, partnerships, and signature and core products. In this role, you will bring creative ideas and a strong understanding of footwear materials to support the brand's skateboarding and streetwear initiatives. You will work across multiple segments of a line, collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop and execute material strategies that elevate product storytelling and performance.
Top 5-7 Skills:
- Creative Footwear Material Design (5+ years)
- Experience working on multiple segments of a line
- Interest or knowledge in Skateboarding, sneaker culture, or streetwear
- Portfolio demonstrating recent work, design process, and taste level
- Basic understanding of Leathers, canvases, uppers, synthetics, wovens, and meshes
- Technical knowledge of materials (nice to have)
- Understanding of the business aspects of material design (nice to have)
Requirements for the role:
- 5+ years of experience in Creative Footwear Material Design
- Experience working on multiple segments of a line
- Interest or knowledge in Skateboarding, sneaker culture, or streetwear
- Portfolio required – examples of recent work.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Design, Materials, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- 5+ years of relevant experience in Creative Footwear Material Design
- Or equivalent combination of education, experience, and training
Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have):
- Basic understanding of Leathers, canvases, uppers, synthetics, wovens, and meshes
- Understanding of footwear trims (bonus)
- Understands the business aspects of material design
- Technical knowledge of materials
- Previous industry experience (preferred) – must have a focus on skateboarding
