Apparel Color Designer
Location:
Beaverton, OR (Onsite) Duration: 6 Months (Contract)
As the Apparel Color Designer II, you will bring to life trend-relevant, narrative-driven concepts by being a color specialist at the product and collection level. This will require driving product excellence through the connection of design, development and manufacturing. Through research and deep consumer understanding, you will be on the cutting edge of color trends, fashion, art, design and sports-related products.
You will sit with the Footwear & Apparel Color Design team supporting Basketball Design.
We're looking for an Apparel Color Designer II to combine their experience, problem solving abilities, and creativity to help build the future of a flagship basketball brand. The ideal candidate needs to elevate the athlete product experience with a focus on both the art & science of Color. In this role, you will drive an emotional connection to apparel through the use of narrative and storytelling.
MUST-HAVE:
- Bachelor's degree in design or related field
- 3+ years industry experience in color design for apparel
- Curation of color palettes and mood boards, with strong storytelling
- Strong taste level — high-end, high-fashion driven rather than sport or streetwear styles
- Passion for storytelling with the ability to translate narratives onto physical product
- Ability to collaborate with other designers/Design Directors to build palettes and color flow based on category color strategy
- Demonstrates a strong understanding of color technology and how to achieve desired color effects: materials, dyes, finishes and color achievability
- Ability to plan and execute the product color details and review all samples, troubleshoot for achievability issues and clearly communicate changes in order to ensure timely completion of each project
- Creates and delivers powerful presentations of seasonal design proposals that effectively communicate the concept behind the line for internal and external audiences
- Shows ability to self-manage
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Highly proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop) and Keynote on a Mac Platform
NICE-TO-HAVE:
- Apparel design experience
- Ability to work on line art and digital sketches of apparel
- Ability to build seasonal color concepts, and explore new is desired
- Love of sport, curiosity for athlete insight and connection to sport style trends
- Ability to conduct in-depth research on athlete insights in order to drive innovative design solutions
- Provides color design support for design team as needed outside of assigned product load
- Previous industry experience with a global athletic or fashion brand
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTIONS:
Will accept any suitable combination of education, experience and training in lieu of a degree
WHAT YOU'LL WORK ON:
As our Designer II, you will develop color palettes to link into seasonal narratives, build strong presentation tools, and color line art to detail the creation of each product. You will research and deliver color, design, and directional work that influence and impact the product aesthetic, application, and target audience. You'll use sophisticated design skills to build original, innovative color solutions for the product range.
