Position Overview
  • The Director of Academic provides instructional leadership to support high quality teaching and learning in a Chinese and English language immersion environment. This role focuses on teacher development, curriculum alignment, data driven instruction, and program coherence across both language tracks. The Director works closely with the Interim Principal to strengthen instructional practices, ensure alignment across Chinese and English programs, and drive continuous academic improvement.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field;
    Master’s degree in Curriculum & Instruction, Educational Leadership, or a related field preferred
  • Valid Oregon Teaching License (or ability to obtain)
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of teaching experience, preferably in a K–8 setting
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills required, with the ability to work effectively across bilingual teams
  • Proficiency in reading and writing simplified Chinese strongly preferred, to support alignment of Chinese and English curriculum and instructional materials
  • Experience in curriculum development, alignment, and instructional design strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated strength in instructional coaching, teacher development, and professional learning
  • Demonstrated knowledge of language acquisition theory and instructional practices, particularly in dual language immersion settings
  • Ability to analyze and use student data to inform instruction and program improvement
  • Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams
  • Proactive problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Comfort with technology and digital tools to support instruction and collaboration
Essential Responsibilities Instructional Leadership
  • Promote effective bilingual instructional practices, language acquisition strategies, and culturally responsive teaching
  • Monitor instructional quality across classrooms and support consistency and coherence across grade levels
  • Conduct classroom observations to inform instructional support and ensure rigor and alignment in practice
  • Collaborate with school leadership to align instructional priorities with the school’s overall academic vision
  • Support the alignment and effectiveness of Chinese and English intervention systems, in partnership with intervention team, to ensure timely, data-informed support for diverse student learning needs
Curriculum & Program Coherence
  • Lead the alignment and integration of Chinese and English curricula across the K–8 program, ensuring a coherent and well‑sequenced learning experience across grades, subjects, and language tracks
  • Ensure the Chinese and English programs are intentionally designed to align in both language development and academic content, so that instruction across languages is complementary, connected, and mutually reinforcing
  • Ensure curriculum coherence across all core subject areas (e.g., literacy, math, science, and social studies), supporting meaningful connections between language development and content learning
  • Support alignment of curriculum with relevant standards (e.g., ACTFL, Oregon ELA, ELD) in ways that are meaningful and appropriate to the dual language immersion context
  • Partner with teachers to review and refine curriculum based on student learning needs, program goals, and instructional priorities
  • Lead curriculum mapping processes, including developing and maintaining curriculum maps and renewal calendar, managing a curriculum renewal cycle, and coordinating the curriculum review and revision process across teams
  • Support the design of interdisciplinary learning experiences, including project‑based learning and milestone and capstone programs, to deepen integration and application of student learning
