Commercial Mechanical Contractor Detailer Position
A commercial mechanical contractor is seeking an experienced Detailer to support the modeling and coordination of mechanical piping, process piping, and plumbing systems for commercial construction projects. This role is responsible for producing accurate 3D models, identifying design conflicts, and collaborating closely with project teams to support efficient, safe, and cost-effective installations. This position is ideal for someone who has strong field knowledge, advanced Revit skills, and experience coordinating mechanical systems with multiple trades.
Key Responsibilities- Perform and lead detailing for mechanical piping, process piping, and plumbing systems
- Create coordinated 3D models and identify routing efficiencies and design conflicts
- Interpret contract drawings, specifications, and submittals to extract required information
- Attend and participate in project coordination meetings with BIM teams and project management
- Develop layout point files for Trimble/Topcon and assist with field layout needs
- Maintain project model updates, logs, RFI documentation, and file sharing tasks
- Collaborate daily with project managers, foremen, fabrication teams, and trade partners
- Assist other detailers on assigned projects as needed
- Ensure models and coordination practices align with company standards and industry best practices
- 5+ years of experience in mechanical piping, process piping, or plumbing systems
- Strong field understanding of mechanical trades
- Proficiency in Revit, Fabrication CADmep, Navisworks Manage, and BIM 360 platforms
- Skilled in Bluebeam, Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and standard coordination tools
- Ability to read and understand construction documents
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Knowledge of local, state, and international building codes related to mechanical systems
- High school diploma or equivalent required; trade school experience preferred
- Experience with Dynamo, Forge, Python, Revit API, or related scripting languages
- Bilingual abilities
- Exposure to advanced automation workflows
