Electronics Technician
Job Description
The Electronics Technician diagnoses and resolves electronic failures in precision test and measurement equipment, working down to the component level. This role combines strong electronics theory with hands-on troubleshooting, using structured logic and diagnostic tools rather than trial-and-error. The technician supports both repair activities and production operations by performing detailed fault isolation, executing tests, and verifying that products meet performance specifications.
Responsibilities
+ Diagnose electronic failures on complex products with a focus on precision test and measurement equipment.
+ Perform root-cause analysis of electronic failures, identifying the underlying issues rather than treating symptoms.
+ Interpret and analyze schematics, block diagrams, and wiring diagrams to isolate faults within circuits.
+ Troubleshoot down to the component level using structured logic and systematic approaches.
+ Utilize historical failure data, internal diagnostic tools, and test results to guide repair decisions.
+ Apply electrical engineering principles to identify likely failure points instead of relying on trial-and-error methods.
+ Operate electronic test equipment such as oscilloscopes, signal generators, digital multimeters (DMMs), power supplies, and logic analyzers to validate repairs.
+ Execute functional and performance tests after troubleshooting to confirm products meet required specifications.
+ Verify pass/fail outcomes of tests and document results clearly and accurately.
+ Support production floor operations by providing technical evaluations and failure analysis.
+ Assist engineering teams with detailed failure analysis and feedback on recurring issues or design-related concerns.
+ Explain technical findings clearly, relating symptoms to root cause and final resolution for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
+ Participate in an electronics test or evaluation that includes component identification, schematic interpretation, and basic circuit troubleshooting as part of the hiring process.
+ Demonstrate logical fault isolation and pattern recognition by explaining why a particular failure occurred and how it was resolved.
+ Calibrate and debug electronic circuits and circuit boards as needed to ensure proper operation.
Essential Skills
+ Strong understanding of analog and digital circuits, including passive and active components.
+ Ability to read and interpret schematics, block diagrams, and wiring diagrams and understand circuit functionality.
+ Familiarity with common failure modes in electronic assemblies and circuit boards.
+ Proficiency in using diagnostic instruments such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers, signal generators, and power supplies.
+ Solid electronics fundamentals, including the ability to understand circuits and follow schematic representations.
+ Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot down to the component level, identify the root cause, and implement effective repairs.
+ Logical fault isolation skills, using structured reasoning to identify likely failure points.
+ Pattern recognition skills to explain why something failed and identify recurring issues.
+ Component-level knowledge, including the ability to identify components in schematics and understand their role in a circuit.
+ Strong technical communication skills, including the ability to explain findings clearly and relate symptoms to cause and resolution.
+
Experience with electronics testing, debugging, calibration, and circuit board-level work.
+ Education or training such as a Bachelor's degree in Electronics, an Associate degree in Electronics, or a military electronics background.
+ Readiness to successfully complete an electronics evaluation covering component identification, schematic understanding, and applied circuit troubleshooting.
Additional
Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience as a field service technician with strong electronics troubleshooting skills is highly valued.
+ Success in entry-level roles for candidates with bachelor-level electronics backgrounds demonstrates a good fit for this position.
+ Ability to support both production and engineering teams by providing clear technical feedback and failure analysis.
+ Comfort working in an applied electronics environment that emphasizes problem-solving rather than memorization.
+ Willingness to work initially under a contract arrangement with the potential for conversion based on performance and business needs.
Work Environment
The role is based in a manufacturing environment that is maintained to clean and organized standards. Work involves hands-on interaction with precision electronic test and measurement equipment, including oscilloscopes, signal generators, digital multimeters, power supplies, logic analyzers, and circuit boards. The technician works closely with production and engineering teams in a setting that emphasizes careful diagnostics, structured testing, and adherence to product…
