The PositionThe Operations Foreman ensures the successful daily operations of the plant and employees. Oversees manufacturing, packaging, shipping, and quality control, including creating production schedules, troubleshooting product and equipment issues. Supervises and trains other plant staff.
Essential ResponsibilitiesThis list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities per management discretion.
- Front-line supervision of production team – oversees team in an appropriate manner regarding all aspects of production activities, including prioritizing duties, delegating work assignments, and scheduling employees to optimize production and maintenance functions.
- Prepares operation schedules and coordinates processing activities to ensure production, cost and quality expectations are met.
- Responsible for production, including mixing, batching, and product formulation with a focus on first-time quality and consistency.
- Optimizes the safety and production performance of the operation.
- Analyzes production metrics and methods and makes recommendations for continuous improvement, equipment performance, utilization of people, and safety objectives.
- Operates and trouble‑shoots milling and grinding equipment and packaging line.
- Responsible for packaging line quality control, ensuring that the lot numbers are correct.
- Coordinates accurate logistics for the loading finished products onto trucks.
- Manages packaging of products into supersacks or small bags.
- Cleans and maintains packaging line to prevent cross‑contamination of product and oversees others as needed.
- Takes core samples of the raw materials and finished goods to ensure quality of product (such as the moisture percentage and bulk density) are within expected parameters.
- Completes inventory of raw materials and finished products, reports count to Plant Operations and enters them into Parity.
- Backs up the Mill Operators.
- Unloads and stages raw materials, processes bills of lading.
- Operates forklift, aerial lift, scissor lift, reach lift and skid steer.
- Helps with maintenance/repair of plant machinery, such as milling, bailing and packaging equipment and lines.
- Responsible for following safety programs and reporting deficiencies to management.
- Attends daily Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) meetings and adheres to safety measures.
- Safety committee participation.
- Maintains daily production and quality assurance logs that are neat and orderly.
- Demonstrates an understanding of the products manufactured and the processes involved.
- Contributes to a positive workplace in a mill environment that promotes safety, quality, trust, and teamwork.
- Able to communicate clearly both in writing and verbally.
- Demonstrates a willingness to work in all environments as needed.
- Supports other functions and special projects related to the success of the business.
- Demonstrates a team player approach and self‑motivated individual.
- General housekeeping of operator’s office, breakroom, and restroom areas.
- Other duties as assigned.
This role serves as the front‑line supervisor to other plant employees, and the Process Development Manager will oversee the full management of the team.
