Description
Ascentec Engineering is hiring at our Tualatin, Oregon headquarters! We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Machinist to join our team for this full-time position. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience operating and maintaining CNC machine centers, including Okuma, Mazak, Fanuc Robodrill’s, and Haas. This role requires strong leadership skills and a minimum of 5 years of experience in CNC machining.
Schedule:
Day Shift: Monday through Thursday, 5 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
This position is on-site (not remote/not hybrid) and not eligible for Visa sponsorship.
Requirements Essential Functions/Responsibilities:Daily:
Machine Operation:
- Set up, operate, and support manufacturing product CNC machine centers (Okuma, Mazak, Fanuc Robodrill’s, Haas).
- Interpret technical drawings to include basic blue print reading and GD&T to produce precision parts.
- Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on CNC machines to ensure optimal performance.
- Monitor machine operations to detect malfunctions and make necessary adjustments.
- Perform set ups and tear downs as needed to maximize spindle utilization.
- Lead and supervise a team of machinists and operators (1-5 individuals) on the day shift.
- Provide training and mentorship to team members to enhance their skills and productivity.
- Coordinate work schedules, assign tasks, and ensure timely completion of production goals.
- Provide constructive feedback to team members.
- Take ownership for the work center and outcomes on the weekday shift while providing leadership, ensuring alignment, and supporting swing and weekend shifts.
- Ensure all machined parts meet quality standards and specifications.
- Perform in-process inspections and final quality checks using precision measuring instruments.
- Implement and maintain quality control procedures to minimize defects and improve efficiency.
Review OEE Machine Utilization:
- Analyze machine performance data to assess utilization rates.
- Identify any downtime causes and propose solutions to minimize them.
- Conduct root cause analysis for recurring defects.
- Lead Kaizen events and other continuous improvement initiatives.
- Encourage team members to suggest and participate in improvement activities.
- Measure the impact of implemented improvements on production efficiency.
- Apply Lean principles such as 5S, Value Stream Mapping, and Just-In-Time.
- Meet with direct leadership to discuss weekly performance and improvement needs.
- Provide updates on ongoing projects and highlight any challenges.
- Develop action plans based on leadership feedback and strategic goals.
- Spend time on the shop floor to observe processes and engage with operators.
- Gather feedback from the team to identify potential areas for improvement.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and open communication.
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree or certification in CNC machining preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in CNC machining, with at least 2 years in a lead or supervisory role.
- Proficiency in operating and set up of Okuma, Mazak, Fanuc Robodrill’s, and Haas machine centers.
- Strong understanding of G-code and M-code programming.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
