The Eligibility Worker (Public Benefits Specialist) - Bilingual English/Spanish preferred - will support our Eligibility Partnership team in Beaverton and administer public benefits such as SNAP, LTC, TANF, ERDC, and Medicaid.
Responsibilities- Interview applicants in-person and by phone to gather and assess information for benefits programs.
- Perform eligibility determinations, redeterminations, and periodic reviews.
- Assist customers in-person and over the phone who are receiving or applying for benefits.
- Communicate eligibility decisions to applicants.
- Provide person-centered, trauma-informed services to identify customer needs.
- Ensure accurate and timely eligibility determinations and maintain quality documentation.
- Create a welcoming and inclusive work environment for clients and team members.
- Participate in professional development and continuous education on cultural awareness.
- One year of experience at Human Services Specialist 1 level for the State of Oregon; OR
- Two years of experience working with the public, interpreting and applying policies, rules, or guidelines; OR
- An associate degree in Behavioral Science, Social Science, or a closely related field AND six months of public assistance experience; OR
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience relative to the class concept.
- Professional communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to explain policies and procedures clearly to customers.
- Effective planning, prioritizing, and meeting deadlines.
- Flexibility and willingness to learn with shifting policies.
- Critical-thinking skills to assess information and make decisions.
- Technical proficiency in technology platforms and databases for data management.
- Positive relationship-building with diverse individuals.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English.
Standard work schedule: 8 a.m.
- 5 p.m., Monday - Friday. Work is conducted in-office and in-person at the Beaverton ODHS office. Must sit at a terminal or telephone for prolonged periods. Consistent attendance and adaptability to changing policies are essential.
Selected finalists will undergo a criminal history and background check, which may lead to disqualification. I-9 and E-Verify confirmation required within three days of hire. A driving record review may be conducted; non-essential function unless required by role.
