Position: Insurance Assistant 1-Mail Room

Join our team at PEIA! This position performs day-to-day mailroom operations for the Public Employees Insurance Agency (PEIA). The ideal candidate will manage the efficient handling of incoming and outgoing mail, including high-volume distributions for state agencies, city governments, and universities. This role requires organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain an efficient mailroom environment.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Mail Operations: Open, sort, and distribute incoming mail; prepare and transport outgoing mail; process packages and supplies to distribution points.
  • Administrative Support: Scan, index, and prepare documents, checks, and invoices for processing.
  • Equipment & Supplies: Maintain, clean, and operate mailroom equipment; monitor, order, and distribute agency supplies.
  • Documentation & Compliance: Maintain clutter-free workspace, research unidentified mail using multiple systems, and adhere to strict confidentiality protocols (HIPAA/PHI/EPHI).
  • Knowledge of US mail regulations and mailing procedures.
  • Ability to lift heavy boxes/bags.
  • Proficiency in organizing and maintaining a professional, clutter-free work environment.
  • Ability to interpret rules, regulations, and policies while dealing with sensitive issues in a controlled manner.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with members, retirees, providers, and state/local government agencies.
  • Work as a positive and productive team member.
Qualifications
  • Training: Graduation from a standard high school or the equivalent.
  • Experience: Four years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid clerical experience, including two years working with insurance claims, benefits, premium collection, or insurance eligibility.
