Job Goal

To provide a well‑organized, smoothly functioning class environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials. To implement behavioral and instructional programming as outlined by a BCBA; to assist staff with implementing behavior support plans and carryover of skills.

Qualifications
  • Registered Behavior Technician or specialized training in Applied Behavior Analysis, including Discrete Trial Teaching and Positive Behavior Support; willing to obtain RBT certification.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Passing score on the West Virginia aide classification competency test.
  • Completion of a successful background check.
  • Basic word processing skills preferred.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Computer proficiency including data management and spreadsheets.
  • Experience and training in challenging behavior and crisis prevention intervention.
  • Any combination of training and experience that would lead to successful employment as a countywide supervisory aide/paraprofessional/registered behavior technician.
  • Medium–heavy work capacity required.
  • Must have transportation to travel between multiple locations within the school day.
Essential Functions of the Job
  • Adhere to all federal, state, and district laws and policies.
  • Collect data and maintain documentation for behavioral and instructional programs.
  • Assist staff with implementing individual plans for students.
  • Work with individual students or small groups according to programming outlined and supervised by a BCBA and the IEP in the school or home setting.
  • Help students master equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher.
  • Operate and care for classroom and office equipment, including electronics.
  • Assist with lunch, snack, and clean‑up routines.
  • Assist with toileting and wash‑up routines of both male and female students, which may include catheterization, associated lifting, aspiration techniques, and other special needs as required.
  • Assist with dressing and undressing of both male and female students.
  • Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students (including maintaining RBT credentials and fulfilling supervision requirements).
  • Prepare a variety of materials such as letters, student records, reports, and memos.
  • Demonstrate the ability to remain and respond calmly and objectively to a variety of situations.
  • Provide a variety of behavior management techniques in a crisis situation before resorting to passive restraint.
  • Show the physical attributes and maintain training to passively restrain both male and female students over an extended period of time.
  • Assist with maintaining a structured learning environment through appropriate organization of time, space arrangements, and material organization.
