Description
Responsibilities include reviewing food manufacturing and bottled water permit applications, issuing invoices, permits and notices, and reviewing bottled water facility laboratory results for compliance with state and federal rules. Assist with teaching new sanitarians the state rules and how to conduct food establishment inspections. Coordinate Food Safety Task Force meetings by planning agendas, taking minutes, evaluating variance applications, and establishing a framework through by-laws.
Assist the Food Program Manager to draft and review legislative rules, program guidance, and procedures, and present topics of interest to policy makers and citizens. Be required to obtain FDA Retail Food Standardization by the FDA Regional Food Specialist and perform standardization exercises with the Office of Environmental Health Services and local health department staff. Assist local health departments during foodborne illness investigations.

Training: Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university.
AND
Experience: Four (4) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience as a sanitarian.
OR
Substitution: A Masters degree from an accredited college or university in public health, environmental science, chemistry, biology, physical science or agriculture may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience.
Special Requirements: Must be licensed as a registered sanitarian by the West Virginia State Board of Sanitarians or be eligible to be licensed with the Board per the Reciprocity section of the Practice of Public Health Sanitation , W. Va. Code R. §20-4-4 et seq. Must possess a valid drivers license. Availability of an automobile for continuous use may be a requisite for employment.
