Overview

Under the direct supervision of the trauma program manager, the trauma registrar abstracts medical information from records and enters clinical data in the state registry database.

Responsibilities
  • Enter clinical data of abstracted charts of trauma patients in the state registry in a timely manner per trauma guidelines.
  • Abstract clinical data from charts of trauma patients when needed.
  • Collaborate with the trauma program manager and other hospital staff in maintaining updated policies and procedures related to trauma under the trauma program manager’s direction.
  • Actively participate in ongoing preparation for any state agencies and the ACS site visits.
  • Collaborate in a professional manner with all members of the healthcare team to promote the goals and objectives of the trauma department.
  • Maintain active participation in the Trauma Multi‑Disciplinary Committee and the performance improvement process.
NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Maintain current and accurate meeting minutes of the Trauma Multi‑Disciplinary Committee and the Trauma Peer Review Committee.
  • Schedule and inform medical staff and hospital staff of any and all trauma meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Minimum Education:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Associate Degree in Nursing or Health Information Management preferred.

Minimum

Work Experience:

  • Medical related experience preferred.
  • Experience with information technology software including word processing, database management, presentation and compilation of data/patient records preferred.

Licenses/Certifications:

None required.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Ability to listen, interact, and communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of ICD‑9‑CM and CPT‑4 HCPs coding systems preferred.
